Bamboo arbor?

While searching posts, I found that a few years back there were brides that had built their own arbors or had them made for them, and were passing them along or selling them to other brides after their ceremony - are any of the 2014 brides planning on having an arbor made that they would consider selling when they are done? Of course, I'm not sure how this would work unless one of them live in the OBX or close - but I wanted to ask...renting one plus the delivery fee just seems so expensive. I thought of making my own - but then there is the issue of transporting it...we'd have to rent a trailer and that defeats the purpose of saving money to make it ;-) If not - does anyone know of any lesser-known companies on the OBX that make/rent arbors? I thought I might find someone down there who might make things like that since weddings are such a big business there, but I haven't been able to find anything (even looked on the local Craigslist).

Thanks :)

Hello!  I didn't have an arbor at our ceremony, but I did use bamboo poles (the real deal ones) and tied various lengths of ribbon to it that matched our colors.

Here is a pic if you are interested:

I am having problems with the pic showing up, so I hope this link works for you.  Let me know if not :)

  • For what its worth, we rented a wooden trellis including a large amount of flowers to be intertwined within the trellis for $175. I feel like to make something would be a lot of trouble and more money then you think. Just my 2 cents.

I really like the look of that - did you buy your bamboo poles or rent them from somewhere?

    Thank you!

Thank you for sharing - do you mind telling me where you rented it from? I was quoted $150 from Ocean Atlantic for their bamboo arbor (includes set up but not delivery...which is another $100 but we're renting chairs as well so we'll be paying a delivery fee regardless I guess), but that is just the bare arbor without linen or any kind of decor. Did you have to decorate it yourself or did whoever you rented it from decorated it also for that price?

    Thank you!

Actually, my dad was cruising down the road one day when he saw someone with tons of bamboo in their backyard.  He pulled in and asked if he could cut 8 pieces and the owners were more than happy to let him have it as bamboo starts spreading like wildfire.  He took a torch and lightly went up and down the bamboo to give it that weather look and it turned out perfect!

Do you know of anyone near you that has bamboo?  I am sure that someone knows someone who knows someone else that has it....try posting on FB.

  • We got our flowers from Sugar Snaps, and rented the trellis from there as well. Shirley took care of everything. I'm sure we had a delivery fee but we got all of our flowers there. I don't have any photos here to send..

  • For my daughter's wedding we also used Shirley from Sugar Snap Events. We didn't have an arbor but Shirley has amazing ideas and everything you need. She is excellent with working within your budget. She does all the set up and take down.
  • Jinny from Every Blooming Thing in Hatteras also mentioned she can do an arbor. She has a trailor full of things like that at her shop for brides to use and seems to really want to save you the expense and trouble of hauling things like this down. I'd give her a call.
  • Thank you ladies so much for all of the information - so helpful! I am contacting several people this week to see what I can come up with :-)
