I'm a little sad

So FI and I are getting ready to put our house on the market because we're going to be moving into a bigger one (oh I forgot to tell you guys we found a house!). So we've been in the process of fixing small things around the house to make it more marketable, nothing huge just some stuff that needed to be fixed anyway but wasn't bad enough for us to worry about. Well we got the last of those little things fixed today and I'm sad about it. It was this hole that FI had punched in the wall when we first moved in. Usually when he gets really mad or irritated about something he lets his aggression out on this punching bag but we didn't have the punching bag up yet so he got really really mad about something and then we got in a fight about something so that added to that and he ended up punching the wall in frustration. Lol. Anyway after he did it we laughed and that kind of stopped our first big fight. So we never got around to fixing it because we would laugh everytime we looked at it. It is a little sad to have it fixed. : (

First, congrats on finding a new house! In regards to the nostalgia, it's okay to be sad, but you will always have the memories of your time in that house and now you are going to a new one where you will make many more of those memories!

My Fi tends to get nostalgic when there is a big change coming, he makes it a point to say goodbye (literally). I remember the last night in his bachelor apartment, right before we moved in together, he went around to each room and sad goodbye. It was sweet and I think it helped him with the closure from that chapter in his life and that he was about to begin a new one.

Congrats on getting your new house! I can understand being sad about moving because of all the memories in this house. The hole situation especially. Maybe you should delay putting the punching bag up in the new house and he can make a new hole. Lol. I'm kidding - mostly.
  • Congrats on the new house!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Thanks everyone! We are excited but we are going to miss this house. It is the first house we lived in together. @hlvonb I just have to have him punch another hole! Lol.
  • H and I have been prepping our house for sale too!  We spent the day decluttering and staging his home office, the living room and the front closet.  It is amazing how much stuff we have packed into this house and we haven't scratched the surface.

While H was packing up a Wii we never use I took down two pieces of art from the wall.  Neither were very big and both blended into the wall because they were a similar color.  When he stood up and looked around he immediately noticed and said the room felt twice as big.  He isn't the most observant person so I was surprised he was so quick with it.

Good luck on selling the hosue!

  • @aprilh81 is it amazing how much stuff you accumulate! We've started packing up a few things and the house is starting to feel twice it's size. Good luck on selling your house too!
  • Congrats on finding a new house!! FI and I spent all weekend at our new place fixing things up and taping off the walls so we could paint. When we came back to the apt last night I got all nostaglic about it and thinking about how it was the first place we lived together and how we'd tell our kids about it some day. Plus it's a ridiculously nice apt that we rent for CHEAP so I'm definitely going to miss that (along with our heated floors...sigh).
  • @jdluvr06 It is amazing what boxing up some stuff can do.  I told H that by the time we finished staging that we would be questioning why we were selling in the first place.  lol
