I need some help...

Our wedding is small it was never supposed to be anything big hence coming to Vegas and to have a party type weekend. Well this thing has taken on a life of its own. I have about 50 ppl saying they are coming but I know for sure about 12/15 (the only people we truly want there) everyone else has invited themselves. This is a major problem not only financially but who just invites themselves to someone else's wedding? The package we have paid for includes a mini reception (cake, champagne, and my first dance with my groom and one with my dad) afterwards limo ride down the strip to sight see and take pictures (2hrs) for up to 20ppl. I now feel like im obligated to do a proper reception /dinner due to all of the extra people. As well as have something for them do. Since they will not be attending the sight seeing tour with us.

Any ideas on how to handle this? I have already told them we are not having a big to do wedding so don't expect that. Just I do's cake champagne. I was thinking of doing maybe a small meet & greet or something but im not sure on where to even start.

we are almost in the same boat, we chose vegas to cut on costs, we sent out 50 invitations and about 20-25 people will be coming, we are doing a in suite reception afterwards which consists of: cake, toast, party platters from Albertsons, nothing fancy but we don't have the finances to pay 30+ pp for food, plus we are getting married on a Sunday so people will be flying out that night

I keep seeing people mention the party platters what are they exactly?

Oh my I just looked them up! That is very reasonable, since we were thinking of upgrading to a suite this might be something we can definitely do! Thanks for the info

You really need to put your foot down OP with these self invited guests. We had issues with that and just had to tell them that they were welcome to travel to Vegas but we could not accommodate them at the wedding. The platter idea in suite is great, but some other options for a cheaper reception is going off strip. We looked at Brio Town Square and Roadrunner on Flamingo. Bootleggers south of the strip has really affordable packages too. Doing a lunch reception could save you heaps too.

Thanks @missmo14 I will look into those resturants. I'm thinking we should be done with the ceremony and sightseeing by 4 so an early or light dinner would be appropriate.

I would NOT go to Roadrunner on Flamingo. I was there with some hiking friends on Sunday afternoon. The place was completely empty and yet it took half an hour for someone to come by and help us. Then we were ignored for another half hour. Miserable. I'd hate to see what they'd do with a wedding party.

This seems to be a common problem for vegas weddings.  We were planning on inviting 40, now we have about 80 people wanting to go.  Hell no!  I am putting my foot down, I sent out save the dates adn will be sending invitations.  If you don't get one, you are not coming to the wedding or any of the wedding celebrations.  I am uninviting a girl who cheated on her husband.  After this weekend she announced she is throwing he dirty 30 birthday party a month late, so she can celebrate in vegas and let me know she has 20 friends that are both our friends coming, but were not included in our origninal guest list.  she wanted to give me a heads up, so we could accomodate them.  These are not common friends, they are people I hvae met on occasion.  I have invited my friends and I am uninviting her cheating ass.  SEriously people are bat shit crazy when it comes to weddings, and vegas weddings are no different.

what the hell is up with people inviting themselves. Not only them but a whole posse. smh im sorry all you brides are going through this with idiots (cleaned it up) inviting themselves and thinking its ok.

Yes ladies people have been acting CRAZY since I told then the location even my coworkers are asking to come. I told everyone again that I will not accommodate those who were not invited to the wedding. Although I am going to do a meet and greet hopefully at bootleggers, if not there then in suite. Just depending on when all of the guest (invited) arrive. All of his family is in Indiana and my family is here in GA they have never met. I figured this would be a great way to break the ice and everyone meet before the ceremony. Thanks ladies for all your input, I greatly appreciate it!

Everybody loves to hit a Vegas wedding!  

I would put my foot down, too. Just gently let them know that you appreciate their love and support but that your budget is limited and you are keeping the wedding small. If you are having an open house or casual get together back at home you could let them know about that, but don't let them stress you or pressure you into spending more money or more effort than you planned on. If they are half way grownup, they will respect your wishes and won't hold it against you.
