XP: Clarisonic - To Buy or not to buy?

Hi all, I am hoping you can give me some advice. (I already posted this on beauty but no answer so thought to try my luck finding some users here :))

I was looking at purchasing a Clarisonic. I don't have horrible skin, but I seem to have some blackheads mostly on my nose that do not want to go away for anything (and I have tried lots of treatments, both at home and professional). Anyone that has experience with a Clarisonic: Would this help me to rid my face of blackheads? Also, are less expensive Clarisonic type products (such as the Olay has something similiar, for instance) just as good?
Thanks for any insight!

Re: XP: Clarisonic - To Buy or not to buy?

  • I just bought a clarisonic and I love it. I can't speak to the blackheads (sorry, but they aren't really my issue) I do find it a little tricky to use on my nose, but after I do the dead skin cells are gone. The Olay brush is much different. I purchased one years ago thinking it would be the same. The Olay brush spins to exfoliate. Clarisonic sends sonic pulses, the brush doesn't spin at all, just kind of vibrates. If you're concerned about the cost, they have different levels. I got the Mia2, which is right in the middle. You can also switch out the brush heads, if blackheads are your main problem you could try the brush that is supposed to minimize pores (they also sell creams/gels to use with the brushes, but I have never used those). There are lots of choices and combinations. This is the first thing I have found that actually works for me. Good luck!

  • Thanks for the advice, I did not realize that they were so different.

The main difference for me is that I can buy the Olay version in the beauty shop down the street from my house (cost approx. $40.00) while the Clarisonic I would have to order (in fact, the MIA2 was the one that I was considering) from amazon most likely.

In regards to the Olay, if it is a brush that exfoliates did you find it very abrasive vs. the Clarisonic?

  • I don't personally own one, but I recently got a chemical peel, and the aesthetician told me to get a Clairsonic. She said the other brushes that spin, and don't pulse, can pull on your skin too much, causing damage. She highly recommended it for daily use. I have been keeping an eye on price and will probably order one soon.
  • I have a clairsonic mia 2 and love. I still have blackheads on my nose, but definitely less of them.

Great! Thanks for the info ladies, I like to make these kind of purchases informed :)
It looks like I will be going the Clarisonic route, I will update when I finally make a purchase.

  • I have one and I luuuurve it!
  • My sister is an esthetician. She is a proud supporter of the clarisonic.

  • I bought the Olay one and you can get it on Amazon for about $20 after a $3 instant coupon. I'm also looking into the Clairsonic. Their site has a good side by side comparison chart that shows the product info of each model. Fyi, from what I read, they do not make body brushes for the less ecpensive models.
  • I have a clarisonic mia and I love it. My skin is improved (although it wasn't bad to begin with). I paid about $125, although I've since seen it on sale for $99. To me it's been worth the investment.

  • I've had my Clarisonic Mia for over 2 years, and I bought my mum a Mia2 over a year ago, and we're both totally in love.

PP are correct in that you can buy different types of brush heads for it, including ones for sensitive skin, acne-prone skin, and an exfoliating one.

The knock-off brushes by other brands do not compare. They do not oscillate at the same rate, and the brush head/bristles are not of the same quality, which results in poorer performance.

Also, if you need to focus on your nose, it's helpful to know that the outer ring of bristles on Clarisonic brush heads separate from the inner circle of bristles, making it easier to clean your nostrils, etc.
