^^ we were aiming for something like this: (pic below)

(i thought this was commonly done these days; a small cake with matching cupcakes for everyone)

I was under the impression that is was a dessert buffet, which to me implied that there wasn't enough for everyone. I think if you do this, the same person has to make the cake and or cupcakes, or at least all the cupcakes. Otherwise you risk some people getting better made cupcakes than others. And the cupcakes have to be the same quality as your cake (frosting and all), otherwise it could feel like you're saving a superior product for yourselves and feeding an inferior product to your guests.

there would be enough cupcakes for everyone (made by all the girls under supervision of FMIL, made all together) plus additional pies and cookies. the reason for multiple bakers is just because FMIL is not in the business of mass producing cupcakes and needs help. and the girls are really excited to know they're getting to help do this for our wedding. :) our crowd knows the girls too and the few i've talked to think it's really neat that we're letting them do it instead of spending a lot more on professionally made desserts. we don't care if they match or have the same flavors. if we were to have a variety, FI and I would probly try several of them. and we could even do the cake feeding with different flavors, since he hates chocolate and anything with filling and i hate white cake. LOL .... in any case, i'm here to avoid offending people. there will be a small bridal cake and cupcakes to match. for me this goes into the category of You Can't Please Everyone All the Time. :) i'll try my best...
