Re: Flirting with disaster

  • Yeah, no.

  • If FI proposed and then said "Surprise, we're getting married today!" I'd be all "WOAH. SLOW YOUR MOTHERFUCKING ROLL" and be very much not married at the end of the day.

  • FI would be in for a rude awakening at the altar if he tried this. Hell to the N-O!

  • I don't get the appeal of this. If you're the bride, you miss out on all the fun of planning and anticipating.

For me, our engagement was a period for me and DH to grow as a couple, to grow in our faith, and to mentally and emotionally and spiritually prepare for our marriage.

I asked a guy friend of mine about this and he said, 'If I could have gotten married without the planning and the raging crazy psycho bitch my wife became, I would have done it in a heartbeat.'

That explains a huge chunk of the marital problems they're currently having.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • I'd be all like "Run Forrest run!" and I wouldn't be listening to "Stop."
  • 1. My FI would HATE planning everything by himself. He is very laid back and therefore would not understand how quickly some things are done. He would literally be miserable.

    2. I am too hands on to just have my wedding planned for me.

I agree with you, @HisGirlFriday13, being engaged has been a great step in our relationship and in preparing for marriage. Skipping the whole engagement step could really lead to furhter issues.

  • My photographer shot a wedding like this on New Year's Eve.
  • I wouldn't like this at all. I especially don't like that the poor guests had no idea what they were showing up for!
I would be kind of upset if no one told me I was showing up for a wedding instead of an engagement party!
  • @CaliMel11 I thought the same thing about the guests! I would be upset if I were them. I don't understand why it had to be a surprise for them too?

I guess that he was worried that someone would spill the beans? But I just really think it's so rude to do that to guests! Ugh.
  • I have had so much fun planning our day I would be pretty upset if I didn't get a chance to plan our wedding day.  I would hope someone about to marry me would realize this and not do this.... lol

  • I was all for getting married in Vegas after he proposed there last year.  Only excuse FI could come up with and I agreed with was that our dogs weren't there.  ;)
