I found my dream dress... by accident

I had an appt at the end of the month with DB.  I didn't want to spend a ridiculous amount for my dress but I wanted a benchmark so I could feel good about any tradeoffs I made.  So I made an appt with a bridal salon I had been through before I started losing weight (32 pounds and counting!).  I only brought my mom and one of my good friends.  I've worn a lot of formals so I had a good idea of what i wanted- sweetheart, drop waist.. but not below the hips, ball gown...

It turns out my dream dress was from Fall of 2010 so I guess I should have been married 3 or 4 years ago LOL  Even after trying on several other styles just to be sure..it's a sweetheart, dropwaist, an A line with a hoop skirt to make it full like a ball gown, silk shantung, chapel train... and the best part- it was on the rack, fit great (though I can still lose more weight and the alterations won't kill me- I checked)  and they were having a huge rack sale!

So... with none of the people that were going to be there except my mom and this one friend I found and bought the dress!  I love the look when I walk it in... it's like there is a flowing river behind me.  We'll still keep the DB appt for the BM dresses but yay!  I have a dress and I didn't have to compromise.

  • Congrats on finding the dress! It is such a wonderful (and relieving) feeling. I'm sure you will look gorgeous in it! I am usually not a fan of dropped waist but that one is very pretty :)

P.S. I went twice to find my dress and didn't expet to buy either time. I bought mine on the second trip and both times I was just with my mom. I think this atually made it easier because there were less opinions and pressure to please everyone.

  • Definitely a relief... I was so sure that I wasn't going to be able to afford exactly what I wanted on the budget I'd set so I'd have to either increase the budget or settle on a "must have".  I was a giddy after finding it as I was when he proposed. LOL. And I still sent pictures to the whole entourage who all gushed over it by text so that sealed it... I think you are right, probably because they didn't have the ability to have an opinion on all of them.

  • Exactly! Pictures were sent and they loved it! I know if they were all there, with all of their varying opinions, I would have been overwhemed.

And that's awesome on the weight loss! Keep up the good work!

  • Beautiful dress @valharte!  One less thing to worry about.
  • Beautiful dress! And I see nothing wrong with just having your mom and friend there. I had my mom and twin sister there. I would never have wanted more people.

    Enjoy your dress!
