It's clear this woman is not only an AW but she's also a sexist:

"If a woman is too incapacitated to speak, and potentially unable to ward off someone's unwanted advances, then it's her own fault, she writes: 'Please spare me your "Blaming the victim" outrage.'"

In summary, not only should women spend 75% of their time in college landing a husband, they should get plastic surgery in high school so they are "as socially successful in college as possible", AND it's their fault that some men are not taught to keep their junk in their pants.

ETA: This woman sounds like a peach. I hope her kids all get married and marry people who hate their MIL and never let her see her kids or grandkids.

Also, the mentality that she espouses about women and drinking is so morally repugnant to me I want to physically do harm to her.

But I will agree with her on the whole "women need to be the one's in control of their own safety" bit. However I do not agree that if something does happen when that woman is incapacitated that it is solely her fault and she should just deal with it.

I'm on board with that too. Like, I feel that we should all look out for our own safety, but her line of thinking is like blaming someone for owning a nice home when they get robbed. You can take all the precautions you want, but sometimes that just isn't enough. And men should be taught to keep their junk in their pants and not try to have sex with women who are too drunk to consent (not that men aren't taught this at all, there are just too many who aren't taught it)!

So, me having 2 - 3 drinks (far from enough to inebriate me and leave me 'out of control') at the home of someone I knew, where I thought I was perfectly safe means that it was my fault that someone drugged my drink because I should always be in control of my body? Why doesn't that person have to take ownership and responsibility for being a deplorable human being who preys on others?

I don't care if a woman is drunk, sober, wearing a burqa, or a Hooters uniform -- none of that equals willingly giving up control or her body to someone else. Sometimes, you think you're being safe and cautious, but someone still finds that little loophole that they can slip through to take advantage of you.

Regardless of whether or not you agree with the above, I think the most important thing to remember is that debating whether or not it's the woman's fault is counter-productive to preventing assault and harassment. The more time we spend debating fault and ownership, the less time we spend addressing the underlying societal issues that facilitate and foster these actions and errors in judgment.

However, I think it's a woman's responsibility to drink responsibly and keep herself safe.  Not because rape is ever the victims fault, not because I agree with this batshit crazy woman, but because this world isn't fucking fair.  In a perfect world you could get as blackout drunk as you want and nobody would take advantage.  But that isn't our world.  there are shitty people out there, waiting for an opportunity to take advantage.  They will not keep you safe when you've had too many.  They will not stand behind you when you are taken advantage of (Present company excluded, I know you ladies are extremely supportive of the victims, like everyone fucking should be, but unfortunately our stance isn't exactly followed by the media and law enforcement, who would rather blame the victim.)  So all women should look out for themselves, keep yourselves safe, never let your guard drop, because nobody will be looking out for you.  I try to be optimistic but the general attitude towards rape is one of those instances where I just can't say anything other than people fucking suck.

I enjoy that we injected some lightheartedness into this thread because I was much too agitated about this I-don't-even-have-an-adjective-to-describe-how-awful-she-is-and-how-despicable-what-she-touts-is woman. I'm used to fighting the good fight, but I just don't have the energy today.

This. The moment I read the words "work can wait, fertility can't". I clicked the red X on the top right-corner of the screen in disgust while immediately checking the calendar to assure myself that we were in the correct century.

Trigger warnings all up in this post because I'm in sexual violence prevention mode--

@HaileyDancingbear I've worked in sexual violence prevention, and I can tell you that telling women to look out for themselves and try to keep themselves safe is entirely uneffective at preventing sexual violence. Like, completely, entirely, utterly uneffective.

Not only that, but there's a subtle, if entirely unintentional message that gets sent to perpetrators when we make comments about how women should try to avoid assault. When we say, "Well, use common sense, don't get smashed at a party," what rapists hear is, "If a woman gets smashed at a party, I will consider her partially responsible for her assault." This, in turn, means that perpetrators are more likely to target women who are smashed at parties because those women are now safer to target. When we say, "Well, look what she was wearing," they hear, "I will care less if you assault a woman wearing a particular outfit." When we say, "She led him on," they hear, "I will care less if you assault a woman you have a sexual history with." Etc etc.

Are people actually saying, "Here are the instances where I'll care less if you rape someone?" Of course not. But if we don't hold perpetrators 100% responsible for their actions, if we give any justification for their actions by indicating that their victim wasn't doing everything in her (or his) power to prevent an assault, we're basically saying that perpetrators are NOT 100% responsible.
