Getting in Shape

Orangetheory, anyone?

Hey there,
So I have a good diet plan, with an occasional slip-up here and there... but I'm having trouble kick-starting a real workout regimen.  At this point I've been doing Bikram yoga twice a week, or some other freestyle workout at the gym.  I'm seeing very slow results.

My concern is.. I bought my gown online from preownedweddingdresses.com and it is a size too small.  Great motivation for me, but at the same time I feel like a giant slacker.  I keep having dreams that it's wedding day and the dress doesn't fit and I haven't had it altered LOL.  Ugh.  So, the wedding is November 14, and I'd like to be MOSTLY at my physical peak by like August 1, so I can start getting a better idea of how the dress will fit.

So with that in mind, I've been checking out stuff and Orangetheory gets great reviews and people have tremendous results.  The problem, like any studio class, is that it is sort of pricey.  For unlimited classes, it's $140 with a 6-month commitment.  Worth it?  All input welcome!

I'm also a Pure Barre junkie (but had to scale back because of finances and time restraints) so I've also thought of taking advantage of their bridal package ($375 for 3 months unlimited) once the date is closer.  And honestly, besides my dress actually being able to zip up, I just want some nice, toned arms for the big day.

Okay I'm all over the place.. let's just talk general fitness?!  Haha :)

Re: Orangetheory, anyone?

  • Orangetheory? This sounds intruiging- I've never heard of it. Could you give me a breakdown of the theory (I'm guessing it's not just an orange food based diet!)
  • Hey!  So, I guess their thing is like 60-minute classes, 20 mins on treadmill (with intervals), 20 mins on a rowing machine, and 20 minutes weight training.. they hook everyone up to a heart rate monitor and there's some "orange zone" that they want you to stay in as long as possible.  So, people are reporting burning 1000+ calories.  One guy did a 6-week weight loss challenge and lost something like 50 pounds in that time... not sure how often he went.  I just can't figure out if it's worth dropping/suspending my gym membership and picking up something new.
