Chit Chat

Wednesday morning chit-chat!

It's Hump Day, y'all -- we're half-way through the week!

What's on everyone's schedules for today?

I have a work function (but with free booze!!) after work, then home to the gym for elliptical and weights.

It's overcast and cloudy here now, but about 45 degrees. It's supposed to drop into the 20s and start snowing around 5 p.m. -- yay!

Dear March, the weather, and this never-ending winter:

Re: Wednesday morning chit-chat!

  • Morning! It's supposed to be in the high 50s today which I will gladly accept. It was so gorgeous yesterday! I can't believe more snow is on the way. Worst winter EVER.

One of my coworkers is leaving us so we're going to the local beergarden tonight for some drinks since his last day is on Friday. I haven't been there since the fall so I'm really looking forward to it! They have the most amazing giant pretzel. It's $10 and 100% worth it.

  • Welcome to 2nd Winter!
Central Ontario here - and we expect 5 to 15 cm of snow today. WTF mother nature? You're a bitch...

I'm at work, 8-2 but have nothing to do until around 10:30, it's a tough day :).  After that it's home to pick up my munchkins from their Dad's house and home to take out the puppy.  He ate a travel bottle of hand lotion last night so this afternoon should be interesting.

Once FI gets home, maybe I'll make something fancy for dinner.
Also hoping my invitations come today, that would make me very happy!
  • I am picking up a basket for wedding party snacks. Finding my curlers and vacuuming before work.(5pm-10pm)

I am hoping to hit the gym after work, but this morning hasn't exactly been awesome and the weather sucks, so I'll be fighting my natural instinct to hibernate.

Hibernation = Reruns of Real Housewives, Chinese takeout, and wine.

  • I have work, and I'm debating hitting the gym after work.

I did a class yesterday, and had a fitness assesment the day before. I am crazy sore, like, I have to use my arms to help stand up from a sitting position. If I do go to the gym today, it's for Pilates (My friend is going, and she says it would be good for me since it targets completely different muscles.) . But at the same time I'm like.......ow....

    And I need groceries.

  • Melting and beautiful here today.  Plus 10, I think, is projected.  I'm home sick though, but I still have to run groceries to my class for this afternoon.  I think I've got mild food poisoning, so while I feel better than yesterday, I don't want to be in a situation where I can't run to a bathroom without worrying about who is watching my class.  :(  Hopefully I can use today to get my last Uni assignment finished and my paper started.

  • Mother nature does seem to be in a constant state of pissed off. It was 70 degrees here on Monday, then it snowed yesterday, and now it's supposed to be a decent 50 today. My head feels like it could explode at any minute.

I'm only working half day today - must finish the RFP from hell. I'm hoping I can talk FI into a wine tasting tonight. We got a groupon a long time ago that's ready to expire and lord knows we can't let wine go to waste ;)

  • I am wearing flats today (NO TIGHTS) for the first time in who even remembers. It is supposed to rain/snow later, but right now it is 50 something degrees and it is marvelous.

I am going to a barre class at the gym tonight. I have never been to one but my friends love them so I am giving it a shot. After that, dinner with FI because we haven't seen each other as much as I would like this week.

  • Hellooooo, ladies!

I'm WFH today -- they implemented an Inclement Weather Day for us at 5:30am EST, due to the impending snow (could be up to 25cm in our area). We're also under a Blowing Snow Warning, and it's looking pretty nasty outside right now. FI had to go in to work but may be home early, and I'm typing away happily in my newly-set-up home office!

However, I do want to mail my invitations today, and I'm not wanting to walk down the street to the postal box. #FirstWorldCanadianWinterProblems

I've also remembered how much I freaking LOVE coffee! I've been off of it for a bit (save for Sbux lattes) because I was waaaayyyy over-caffeinating myself, so I switched to green tea. However, I made a coffee this morning and I gotta say, I feel like an addict who just relapsed. MOAR COFFEEEEEEE!

  • sarahufl - you are in NYC also right? On my way to work today I was thinking that I should have worn flats. And barre classes are awesome, I took a couple of them and loved it!

I have been a slacker the past few days, so I am going to hit the gym during lunch. After work, FI and I are going to meet with who will likely be our photographer! So I'm excited about that.

I have also been reading the news and I have been following the missing Malaysian plane. I find it so scary and bizarre that still nothing has turned up on that.

  • Morning! I have an appointment with a dermatologist after work. Then I will go home and try to finish assembling my wedding invites, and cuddle with my kitties.

Weather wise, its about 40 degrees here in Texas. And 82 yesterday evening. This whole bi-polar weather is annoying! Grrr... >:/

..At least Friday is almost here!

  • Not much going on today but I am totally stoked for the next few days. Tomorrow I get to call in sick to work for my all day 8 hour tattoo appointment. My artist is absolutely amazing and is so booked up that I made this appointment last May. So I've really been looking forward to it to finish my arm off before the wedding. And I have never called in sick to work so the one day is alright. If I had waited for a weekend appointment with him it would have been an additional 2 months on top of the already 9 months wait!

Then Friday I will come back to work but it'll be my birthday! So probably go out for a long lunch and slack off all day. Saturday FI is taking me to a nice dinner for my b-day.

Oh! I hope you love barre, @sarahufl! I did a month package at pure barre that expires this week and I'm sad. I was really worried I would make a fool of myself the first class (not flexible. or graceful. or athletic), but I ended up loving it. It'll kick your ass...so, so good.

Yeah, SUPER not graceful, here. Good to hear it is still doable!

We're supposed to get some delightful freezing rain tonight, and snow overnight, but it looks like we're getting a dusting. I am so sick of this winter.

There were free waffles this morning. I love when vendors bring us free food and don't even expect us to pretend to be interested in the equipment.

I'm also planning on gymming it up tonight after work, although my hip is REALLY killing me. Anyone else have problems with their psoas muscles?

YUP. Hip problems are the story of my (adult) life. My piriformis tends to get cranky at times, too.

    Massage, anti-inflammatories, and light stretching.

  • Hello from Arizona!

Doin the usual today. Work from 3am-11am, then off to lunch, an afternoon walk/jog (I have a bad knee that is acting up), calling into a few meetings, then bed by 6pm. I'm totally loving the weather right now- highs in the high 70s/low 80s :)

  • @Jells2dot0, could you please send some of that weather our way? Thanks!

I seriously need this winter to just DIAF and GTFO itself. I'm so snow-weary.

I did! Wow, are they evacuating you guys or anything? I am down in midtown but I was in a conference room on the Park Avenue side of our building and I heard a bunch of really loud fire trucks a little after 9:30. I'm thinking they were probably heading uptown. That's really crazy, I wonder what happened.

  • Happy Hump-day all.
I'm here, at work, busy and stressed (which I will be until the 22 of March). Only a week and a half more to go. I am finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel but it still feels a long way off.

    On a culinary note:
Some colleagues of mine made plans for us to go to an India restaurant for lunch tomorrow which I am excited about, just received the email, yay! I love me good curry any day.

    On a wanderlust note:
I had some good news today! FI and I bought tickets for a long weekend in Paris in April. I am so excited about this because things have been really hectic and straining at work as of late, so I am really happy to have something in the very near future (and after my busy period here) to be excited for!
Anyone that has already been to Paris have any suggestions of any off-the-beaten path type of restaurants that they would recommend or even any charming places to stay?

  • @phira & @pumpkinsandturkeys Is that the hip flexor? I've always had weak hip flexors, I can't do the kickboxing classes because after 3 kicks it hurts so bad. There is a lot of knee to chest leg lifts in T25 that I'm doing. At first it was so hard but I think I'm improving.

I am up on 118 and Amsterdam, so it really isn't so close it is a danger for us.

  • I'm out of town at a conference. It starts at 7am and doesn't end until 10pm, so it's all science all the time. I'm currently stalking this really famous researcher that developed the model system I work with, but no luck so far in actually getting to talk to him.

@pumpkinsandturkeys @jenna8984 There are definitely some general hip muscles that are giving me grief, but what sucks is that the psaos is pretty much an interior muscle in the hip. My massage therapist (whom I can only afford to see once every two months) has to do ridiculous things to get access to it. She gave me a couple of stretches/massages I can do at home, which I need to be less lazy about doing.

@jenna8984 -- the psoas is located along the side of your lumbar and into your pelvis. The piriformis wraps around the back, going from the side of your hip into your bum (about midway up).

There are over 15 muscles around the hip area (according to my orthopaedic surgeon, who had to cut through all 15 of them to repair a cartilage tear I had), so it could be any number of those, dependent on where you're feeling the pain. Is it inner hip (ie: pelvis), the front of the hip, the side, or around the back?

I definitely need to find a way to transfer the weather. We're going to be moving in a few months and I'll be getting a taste of the four seasons again. At least we're keeping our home in AZ!

How fun! I have not been to Paris yet (DH has a few times), but I'm sure you will enjoy it!

I am currently planning a trip for this Fall, but nothing before then because of our move :(

  • My Wednesday is starting off pretty well. The huge project that is due tomorrow is mostly done and boss lady bought us breakfast to celebrate. Today and yesterday I got up early enough to do pilates before work and now I'm really feeling it. My abs hurt when I cough or sneeze. Oh, and pollen season is starting so there's lots of coughing and sneezing.

Tonight I have to call my least favorite aunt and beg for money for my wedding (she manages my mother's estate - it's not like I'm asking for her money). Cross your fingers for me!

@Phira I do (knees too) - my doctor said it's fairly common among young women and gave me some stretches to do.

Sending lots of warm thoughts to my knotties up north. It's chilly and rainy here in Georgia, but not supposed to get below 50 degrees.

@phira -- one of the things that helped me for the interior muscles during post-surgery physio was to sit on a chair (or bed) and put a small, inflatable rubber ball (like a kickball) under my foot. You then slowly open and close your leg until you feel a bit of a stretch and your foot almost rolls off of the ball. Then you do the same while closing your leg. They recommended about 20 reps on each side to strengthen and stretch all of the interior muscles and my abductors.
