In-Suite Reception

I'm not sure if anyone else on this board, or people who are lurking are doing a In-Suite Reception on here, I found this on Pinterest today and thought it was really interesting! We are doing many of the tips that were suggested on here! http://www.littlevegaswedding.com/2013/05/how-to-plan-insuite-wedding-reception-vegas/#.UyExQbmYaM8

  • That's the blog that Knottie @kazzy runs! It's the best! We aren't doing a reception in-suite but we are having an open house so I've gotten lots of great tips from that post as well.

  • It is awesome!!!

Aww, you guys are making me blush. I lived through the insuite wedding thing, so I learned some things the hard way, even with the help of Knotties. Glad this helps you out!

  • We had an in-suite reception. I would add that it's a good idea to rent chairs (super cheap) from a party rental place. Cocktail receptions are fun, but I didn't want people to have to stand around in heels all night. The Vista Suite only had seating for about 20 people, so we had another 20 chairs delivered and scattered them around the room. We also rented some high-boy tables so people wouldn't have to balance a plate and drink while standing.

Also, I would recommend having more than just cocktails if your reception is held during a typical meal time. If it's at 2:00 or 3:00, light snacks and cocktails are fine, but anything from 4:00 - 8:00 really should have food. After 8:00, you can have cocktails and something fun like a dessert bar.
  • Does anyone know if you should mention that you plan on having an in-suite reception at Mandalay when booking the suites? Do they actually allow outside catering? I'm getting mixed reviews.  Pls. someone let me know.  I'm also having a hard time planning a reception location.
  • @wrigley~ we are having drinks and party platters we should get back to the room about 345pm

@Lei808 Mention it if you want to pay their catering fees!

But seriously - some people aren't comfortable with doing things on the sly, and are fine with paying higher rates just to stay legit. It's all about your comfort. I was incredibly nervous asking my family or doing it myself at Mandalay Bay, so I hired a temporary staffing company to get the suite ready and gave them lots of $ to tip well when getting the food, booze etc up to the room, so it was a good middle way.
