Another pop culture question... Anyone else looking forward to Veronica Mars?

I loved VM when it was on tv.  It was so snarky and fast paced...

The movie is being released this weekend in select theaters and also as a digital download.  I can't wait to see it!

  • Yes yes yes!  I plan to see this over the weekend.

  • H has only seen part of one episode that I caught on tv a few weeks ago.  I think I will just do the download/streaming option so I can pause it if he has questions.

I've seen a few articles that says that if you didn't watch the series that you wouldn't be able to follow the movie.  It makes sense though...

  • I read in Entertainment Weekly that they went back and shot some additional footage after the test audiences didn't understand some of the backstory - I hope it works as a stand-alone, but I think the die-hard fans will be the ones that will be seeing the movie.  I love how they got it funded...I only wish Buffy the Vampire Slayer could come back for another story!

  • I never got into the show and really couldn't care less about the movie. I know a lot of my friends are excited for it and donated money to their Kickstarter. I'm just really scared of the precedence this is going to set - studios can have fans pay to make movies so their profit margins could be even higher. This doesn't bode well for small, independent films that struggle for studio backing as it is. I have friends in the industry that are scared as hell that this will happen in the not too distant future.

    That would be freaking awesome!

I'm so excited for Veronica's come back.  However, I will most likely be redboxing it in a few months.  An 18 month old puts a crimp in going to the movies.

@mysticl They are simultaneously releasing it in theatres and online streaming so you don't have to wait!  I think iTunes and Amazon will both have it available this weekend (if not today).

ETA:  Amazon already has it up! $5.99 ($6.99 for HD) to rent and $14.99 to buy.

I haven't had time to binge watch recently, but I watched all three seasons in about a week a few years ago on Netflix.  I had forgotten how much I liked the series.

The college season was the weakest in my opinion.  I missed the over arching story-line that the first two seasons had.  The college season was all over the place...

  • Yes me! I plan to binge watch the TV series before I watch the movie.

I was going to go to the theater to catch it tomorrow, but my family's doing a lunch for my grandmother's birthday, then I video chat with FI, so I'm renting it via iTunes to hopefully watch tonight!  :)

I don't sweat too much how it got funded, I'm just happy that we've gotten a movie!

  • I would like to force FI to watch at least season 1 with me before seeing the film. Whenever i'm working on something that I don't want FI to see, i always have a unicorn screesaver at the ready. I mean, really? What girl doen't love unicorns?

  • I am hoping to catch in the next few days. I have heard that it was pretty good. I am so looking forward to it!
  • It was awesome! I can't wait to see it again!!

  • I watched it last night at home and I loved it!  The storyline is typical Veronica Mars and they did a good job of keeping the snark of the tv show in what could have easily been a sappy reunion movie.  We still have access to it for another 24-48 hours so I may watch it again to see if I missed anything.

We're planning on purchasing it so we can rewatch it. We definitely missed some lines because the whole audience in the theater (us included) was laughing.

I didn't think I would want to own it, but after seeing the movie I want it and all three seasons on DVD.  I need to binge watch from the beginning.  :)

  • *SPOILERS*

I really liked it.  I have a girl boner for Kristen Bell (sorry!), and so I started watching the show pretty recently because of her, but I knew it was totally cult and awesome.  I was *definitely* not prepared for how dark the show was.  Also, how totally amazeballs.

Anyways, I liked the movie, it was solid.  I was kind of bummed about a few things:
A/ not enough back story on Wallace and Mac (can we talk about that haircut? OMG!)
B/ Who was behind the accident that killed Sacks, and injured Keith?
C/ I had to laugh that the backstory as to who really killed Carrie/Bonnie goes all the way back to high school. SO Veronica Mars! :)
D/ Those dress whites were tailored so poorly to me, it felt like.  Those more casual ones at the end? So. Much. Better.
    E/ Jason Dohring? Meow!?

The actress who plays Mac was also on Grey's Anatomy the last season or two and her haircut was a "thing" for her character (not sure if it was character development or an actress decision that they wrote in).

I also thought the dress whites were ill-fitting and looked more like a costume than a uniform.  I always liked Logan and Vernonica together...

  • I liked her on Grey's.  I was sorry to see her character go; especially since, in the beginning, I really didn't care for Kepner, and now I *love* her.  So, I'm sure I would have liked Brooks.

Obviously, Logan was still amazing <3

    More spoilers wheeeeeeee!

I also was a little irritated that they didn't quite answer who killed Sacks!

I really liked the concept that no one can really escape Neptune/who they were. Wallace is still full of school spirit and begrudgingly helping Veronica. Mac is still hacking. Eli gets back on the bike. And, of course, Veronica finally accepted she was staying in Neptune. I thought it was interesting that Logan's the only character who really escaped (and then again, did he really? Keeps getting accused of murder ...), and Dick was one of the only characters who didn't even bother to try to escape. Super awesome.
