This is cute

It popped up on my news feed and is adorable (assuming translated right). At least I was amused

It reminds me of when I was in 4th or fifth grade and I would walk to school (it was a block a way). My dad would leave for work at the same time. This is a residential street and so he used to pull over and talk to me as he was leaving and always jokingly say "Want some candy little girl?" or "Help me find my puppy!"  One day the crossing guard was seriously alarmed and was getting her phone to report a harassing male figure. We had to convince her that he was actually my father and nothing serious was happening. He just thinks he is funny.

Re: This is cute

  • I'm a little alarmed that your dad would say that to you. It seems a little dangerous. What if a stranger really did say that to you, and then you assumed it was a joke b/c you were "trained" to think so b/c of your dad's jokes about it?
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

I would have never assumed it was a joke from a real stranger. My parents were very clear on that and I was a smart kid.  I think you would have to know us to know that though and I can see how it would seem alarming. I remember serious talks from my parents warning us to stay away from strangers and not get into people's cars. My dad's jokes were ways of teasing with us and reminding us. My response would always be "of course, I love getting into strangers cars" or "Ooo. a real puppy, I love puppies" (so teasing him back) and then he would tell me to have a good day and work hard and I would tell him the same. When my brother was old enough to walk to school, I would jokingly say "Oh, I don't like puppies, but my younger brother does, you can have him". We weren't trained to get into cars with strangers at all. He was reminding us not too.

I think every family interacts differently, and there is nothing really alarming about this. I never got into a strangers car and I never would have. The jokes were only when I was old enough to understand that they were jokes.

  • I was walking home from school when I was a first grader, when my Dad pulled up and offered me a ride home.  A lady saw it and called the police.  She had copied down his license plate.
The police chief was a deacon in the Presbyterian church along with my Dad, so he just phoned our house to check.  They both had a laugh.
