Online shopping.

I do it frequently which means I am always giving out private information not the least of which is CC info.  Do you do it?  Do you feel safe doing it?  I personally hate going out shopping and would much rather sit at home and shop online.  Especially when looking for a novelty item like plastic engagement rings.  Amazon is my favorite!

Re: Online shopping.

  • Yep, I buy most stuff except for groceries online. I'm just lazy and I hate shopping. I've never had an issue with it.
  • I guess i'm a moderate online shopper.   I have an Amazon Prime members so I will buy stuff from there because of the free shipping. Mostly household (non-furniture) or electronic stuff.

For the most part I'm not a shopper.  When I do shop I tend to be a touchy, feely shopper.  Especially with clothes.  I rarely ,if ever, buy clothes online.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I hardly ever shop unless it's for groceries. On the rare occasion I buy shoes or clothes I like to do it in person because I must be shaped funny as hardly anything fits me well.

I tend to buy gifts and that sort of thing online. I don't ever really worry about my CC number being out there as along as I am purchasing through legit sites or use paypal.
  • I shop online frequently for just about everything except clothes and shoes (my body is short and thick so the hassle of shipping things back and forth is annoying).

I **NEVER** shop online with a debit card (and rarely use a debit card in a physical store).  Credit cards have way more consumer protection against fraud than a debit card so if my credit card gets compromised I have zero liability and they just send me a new card.

I try to only use trusted sites (amazon, Etsy and stores that have a physical store somewhere).  I've rarely had a problem.

  • If I'm ordering from a site that isn't a major one like Amazon, etc., my Citibank card has a virtual number generator that is good for a very short period of time, so I will do that and use that number.

Yep, same here. I've actually had more issues with my card at physical stores than online (caught up in the TJ Maxx hacking AND both Michael's hackings).

  • Other than groceries, I buy pretty much everything online. I feel generally safe, but know that there's risk involved. I NEVER pay for shipping.

I frequently online shop, too.  I usually only do it with websites I trust and if anyone steals my credit card information then commits fraud I can just call my credit card company and they send me a new card and give me the money that was stolen back.
ETA I like being able to chill from home and buy pretty much anything I want without having to see or talk to anyone

I love online shopping. We get a ton of stuff from Amazon. I don't think I've purchased clothes in store in a long time (Zappos, DSW, Modcloth, Old Navy, Victoria's Secret--you have alllll my money).

  • We buy lots of stuff from Amazon. Like, multiple packages a week sometimes. I love Prime.

I prefer shopping for clothes in person. But the shoe selection online is so much better then where I live!

I am totally going to use some spiff money to buy shoes from modcloth I just need to pick one!

  • We have had our credit car compromised twice.  Once because DH absent mindedly left his card behind at a gas station, which was robbed later that night.  Second, someone in a restaurant copied the numbers.  The credit card company took care of the bad charges, and even caught the gas station thief!
I shop on line all the time.  There's not much to choose from in western CO.  I would never use a debit card to online shop. Never!

  • I do it pretty often, but not for food or clothes.  I need to try most clothes on before I buy them.

Yup. I had my wallet stolen and my CC got used. Easy as pie to get that money back from the CC company. I also had someone at the airport restaurant write down the numbers. I only use my debit card at my bank.  Always use CC for the protection now.
