Can we talk about last night's Walking Dead

AKA Of Mice and Men WTF

I thought it was really well done (other than I think they forgot to show them carrying Judith at the end- they claim she was in one of the bags but nobody carries a baby like that) but WTF.

Re: Can we talk about last night's Walking Dead

  • Definitely didn't see that one coming.  I knew that one girl was crazy but never in a million years did I think what happened was going to happen.

  • I've been able to take or leave the first part of this season because it's been so boring but I decided to watch last night's episode in full with FI. Needless to say, I was crying at the end. I knew that something big was going to happen with Lizzie, I just didn't expect her to kill her sister. Though looking back at the rest of the episode, it was obvious that's the way it was going to happen. I knew that Carol was going to kill Lizzie too because there's no way they could continue on with her and living in fear, but they also couldn't leave her to fend for herself. So, so sad.

  • I was totally shocked.  I love, love, love Carol - I was glad to see her tough veneer finally crack.  What a horrible decision she had to make, but that kid was bat shit crazy.  Poor Mika.  :(

  • Not gonna lie, Lizzie drove me nuts and I hoped she was going to get herself killed sooner than later. But I didn't expect her to take her sister with her. Maybe through her stupidity, but not directly.

I thought the opening scene was really neat. The song playing and seeing Lizzie frolicking in a field and you think maybe it's a flashback- but then you realize she's frolicking with a zombie.

I also really love Carol and her ability to do what needs to be done. How shocked they were when they found her but she immediately and calmly got the gun from Lizzie and explained that it wasn't worth making Judith turn yet and just kind of played along for everyone's benefit.

When she told Tyrese that she killed Karen and David I was scared that he was actually going to grab the gun and kill himself- but I think what happened was set up pretty well. The fact that they unquestionably agreed that the only thing to do was kill Lizzie helped him see that she felt the same about killing Karen and David.

I had a feeling that she was going to do something crazy. The way she was acting and saying, "She knew what she had to do now" didn't sit right with me. However, I thought she was going to kill herself and come back as a zombie and was shocked when she killed Mika (which I cried like a baby).

I knew they were going to decide that Carol had to kill her because there wasn't another choice really. It would be different if it weren't an apocalypitical time and they had access to a mental health hospital. She was putting everyone at risk at that point.

I was also glad she finally admitted to Tyrese that she was the one who killed those two people. And I thought it was great that he decided to forgive her for it. You know, she did have good intentions and she will have to live with the guilt the rest of her life.

I also noticed they weren't carrying Judith. That was the first thing I said to FI. I was like, "Where is the baby?!" Oh well...

  • I really thought that Carol and Tyreese were going to put Lizzie in the same room as her dead sister and just let the sister turn and eat Lizzie.

But I am glad to see Lizzie go because she was freaking insane.  And the other sister was just too good and nice for this zombie world.  She would have died eventually.

  • It was stll shocking to see but I had a feeling they were going to play out something like this with Micha and Lizzie to replicate what happened in the comics.

  • @Maggie0829, I thought the same thing about putting Lizzie in the same room with Mika! I thought Carol was taking her outside to let her "play" with her sister and then was gonna just...let things take their course. I'm not sure which would have been more compassionate; I mean, Lizzie wanted that connection with the walkers, and she wanted to be with her sister when she came back. But the way Carol ended it was quicker and painless and didn't destroy whatever warped view Lizzie held. That kid was cray, but I am gonna miss Mika. :(

I feel like Tyreese was just exhausted at the end of this episode. He's already lost so much in such a short period of time - a place to live, his love interest, doesn't know where his sister is, and now the two girls. He can't deal with any more right now, even if it means accepting what Carol did, forgiving her for it, and moving forward. Very awesome of him.

Glad Carol is getting a little bit of her humanity back. I feel like she got almost too tough and matter-of-fact recently, and it was actually refreshing to see her feel something again. Incredibly sad that it had to happen with the girls, though.

  • I had the same reaction in the last scene. "where's Judith??"

I knew there was something wrong with Lizzie because of the rabbits a few episodes ago and covering Judith's mouth (starting to suffocate her?) and she clearly didn't understand the zombies but I didn't see that coming at all. I gasped and saw my FI cover his mouth. I think they should have let her see Mika turn, not to hurt her but to show her the truth. I do agree though, what other choice did they have? She wasn't safe to be around other people. Heartwrenching though.

Also, am I the only one who thinks it's interesting that Rick kicked her out of the group because he couldn't trust Carol, and now she's killing a little girl to protect Rick's daughter? Assuming they all reunite eventually I think all will be forgiven because she's brought his daughter back to him.

  • There was another scene when the group was walking on the tracks that no one was carrying Judith in as well. I think she's supposedly in a bag but that really wouldn't work too well.

  • They have a baby carrier. When we first saw Tyreese the two girls after the whole craziness at the prison went down, Tyreese turned and Judith was in a baby carrier. So in the scene where they were walking down the tracks, Carol had Judith in the baby carrier on her back.

  • I'm Still trying to recover from what I saw last night.

I don't think Rick really has any hard feelings against Carol. I felt like he couldn't argue with her logic but kicked her out more for her own protection in case Tyreese found out. And now he has and it's okayish.

  • Does anyone read the comics? The similiarty was on point like in the comics except with the older/younger sister, it was with the twin boys. The lines were just exact like in the comics.

Lizzie ANNOYED me to no end at the prison. I knew she was crazy and devious (after Judith's attempt to suffocate her) but damn, I was not expecting that. I see how they portray Lizzie with a mental illness though. (Like telling her to look at the flowers and counting). I was hoping they would let Mica turn into a walker and let Lizzie "play" with her to where eventually the walker would get ahold of Lizzie. Eventually Carol and Tyreese would have no choice but to kill them.

A lot of people were disturbed by last night's episode (Im guilty of reading blog recaps) but I can kind of see what Carol had to do. She was not safe to be around other people including Judith.

I've read them, and I definitely saw Lizzie killing Mika a mile away. I did sort of expect them to take at least 2 more seasons to do it, though, as the show often does.

I thought they had forgotten to show anyone holding Judith at least twice during the episode, but noticed the empty-looking, completely still baby carrier at the end. Did anyone notice a few episodes ago when the new girl who is currently grouped with Glen mentioned her "nephew" that had died during the prison battle? Did she really forget that quickly that it was actually her niece? Really? I know it's a small, insignificant detail, but come on.
  • Holy hell.

DH and I were actually watching on separate floors. I had gone upstairs to watch while using the electric blanket (II was freezing). DH was too caught up to follow. Next commercial after Mika was killed, he ran up the stairs. I could hear him yelling obscenities while he watched. I was too shocked to even cry, and I normally cry easily.

I actually kinda liked Lizzie. I thought she was a very interesting character, if a big fucked up in the head. I'm sad about Mika- she was a sweetheart. Props to Carol for doing what had to be done. And I second PP about Tyrese's expression- he has the best bug eyed face EVER!

As far as baby Judith at the end, DH thought she was missing too, until I pointed out that she was being carried on one of their backs. I think they also put a little hat on her, that made her kinda blend in with all their bags and whatnot.

  • I saw this thread yesterday and it was so hard not to peek because I couldn't watch until last night!

I did NOT see that coming at all. When they were down by the railroad tracks and the burnt walkers were coming after them, at first I thought it was Lizzie who got stuck on the fence and was about to be bitten and I was like "FINALLY THIS CRAZY LUNATIC CHILD WILL BE GONE!"

Mika was so sweet. Once the initial shock wore off, I actually cried. This episode hurt my feels.

  • Oh man, oh man. That was a rough one! I'm with Swazzle - couldn't watch it until last night and took everything in my power not to peak at this thread before then!

My heart breaks for Carol. She seems to always be the one left to do the dirty work. And poor Mika, though I really think it was a blessing as she was too "soft" to have survived anyway. And Lizzie was straight ty-cray; that little shit needed to be gone.

  • I wasn't really disturbed by the episode.  I mean it is the zombie apocalypse and hard decisions need to be made for the better of the group.  However I did feel for Carol because she kind of took those two girls under her wing and treated them like her own.  So with them both dying and her having to kill the one it was like she was losing her daughter all over again.

But Melissa McBride seriously killed it in this episode.  Definitely emotional and pulled at the heart strings.  So sad there are only 2 more episodes left.

  • From how Lizzie was acting, I figured she would have killed herself before I thought she would kill her sister.  I was nervous about Judith until I saw her at the end on Tyrese's back.

  • I suspected that the older sister was a crazy bitch and that she was the one feeding the walkers mice and that dissected that rabbit.  I also originally thought that she killed Karen and David and that Carol was just covering for her, but apparently not.
