Milwaukee Area Budget Cakes & Flowers

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for Milwaukee area cakes. We have a very strict budget and I haven't been able to find anyone that fits our budget of about $400. We are planning on inviting around 150ppl.

Also I need ideas for budget friendly flower shops. I don't mind buying flowers in bulk and making the bouqets myself either. I wanted to use orchids, but I know they can be expensive. I will probably end up doing purple Gerber Daisies if possible.

Thanks!!!

Have you thought about getting a 2 tier cake and then having sheet cakes in the back to be cut?  I know that's how a lot of people plan on saving money on their cake.  Otherwise you could have styrofoam tiers if you wanted a bigger cake and then have 2 real tiers for the cutting and the anniversary cake.

I know some people on the budget board have gotten their cakes from walmart or other grocery stores.  Maybe you could look into that?

My cake is being made my my step-mom from out of state, so I don't have any vendor suggestions, sorry!

I'm DIY my flowers as well (with the help of my sister!) and I know a lot of people suggest costco, but I've also seen this review and it might help you:
http://www.do-it-yourself-weddings.com/wedding-flowers-wholesale.html There is also a flower market in Milwaukee I think...the class my sister is attending takes a trip there I think...

You might be able to get orchids a little cheaper, but I would suggest using silk orchids for centerpieces if you want that.  Then you can mix some real ones with other flowers to save money.

Our cake is coming from Cakes by Stephanie for the high 200s. Its a 3 tier cake and any design can be done for the same price.

But you could go to Cosco (great flavors) or another non-cake shop if you really want to save.

Depending on what time of year you could get your flowers at farmer's markets or Sendiks. I was there recently and overhearing a gushing bride so happy with her order and how cheap it was. By this time I had already booked my flowers :-P

"Eat Cake!" is my vendor.  Deb is nice, and is around $3.50/slice.  DELICIOUS too!  We searched high and low for a baker.  She's on Vliet street in Milwaukee.

We're doing cupcakes for $1.99 each--would bring your total cost to about $300.

I'm not sure about cakes since I actually went WAAAYY overbudget on mine :) but I am using Flowers by Faye for my flowers.  Her prices are extremely reasonable since she works out of her home.  Here is her website: http://www.flowersbyfaye.net/ Good luck!

Cakes by Stephanie in Menomonee Falls is around 1.50/person.  We used her for our wedding and her cake was amazing.  People still talk about how good it was.

Her website is not great, I recommend calling her directly:

My friend got married at the Milwaukee Zoo July 2008 and used Cakes by Stephanie. She had nothing but great things to say about her. I met Stephanie at a wedding show and her sample was delicious. She is down to earth too.

We ended up going with cupcakes from Sendik's. Nothing fancy. They have vanilla, chocolate, swirl and pumpkin (in the fall). We are getting married this October. I spoke with the baker and they already do Halloween decorating at that time of year, so there shouldn't be any extra surcharge for decorating the cupcakes (we are having a Halloween theme, so I am okay with Halloween decorated cupcakes). The cupcakes are about $1.30 each for a normal size cupcake.

I am also getting my flowers from Sendik's (Tosa). I am doing a simple bouquet of mango calla lillies and 2 wrist coursages (one for mom and one for godmother). My total came to $140 for the flowers.

If you don't get an email back from Stephanie, try calling her.  I had better luck via phone.

Also, I missed the flower part.  We used all red Gerber daisies for our wedding and Petals - Carrie Kroenig did a good job.  To cut costs, we did reduce the number of flowers immensely. However, she kept it simple and maintained the vision I had.

I highly recommend Petals by Carrie as well. She just did our wedding last weekend and everything was perfect. She will work with your budget, too. Our first estimate was a bit higher than we wanted, and she negotiated some prices down for us and pointed out how we could cut corners without cutting our vision.

A friend used Sendik's for her wedding and was pretty happy with them too, and she thought the prices were great.
