Off-White Dress & White Undershirt???

Hey guys!
So we are trying to get all the groomsmen attire in order. When we went to Mens Warehouse to get some ideas, the guy told us that if my dress is off-white, the guys wearing crisp white shirts will make my dress look dirty in pictures. But we haven't found off-white dress mens dress shirts that don't look dingy themselves. What do you guys think? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Re: Off-White Dress & White Undershirt???

  • They were wrong.  White dress shirts (I think that is what you mean.) look best on men.  No one will notice any difference between the white and your ivory dress.  My daughter did this at her wedding, and the photos look great!  Ivory dress shirts can be difficult to find, and I think they look dingy.

  • The people at Mens Wearhouse are ridiculous.   Most "ivory" or off-white men's dress shirts often look somewhat yellow.  An Ivory or offwhite dress is just that, off white. Your dress won't look dirty.

Here is a photo of my partner and I and my father in law.  My dress is ivory, my partner's shirt and my FIL's shirt are both crisp white.

Don't let them stress you out over something that is a non-issue.

  • It's like you read my mind today. I started off wondering about a white lace veil with my ivory/cafe dress and somehow made my way around to menswear and dress shirts. It's probably not worth worrying about and I'll just let FI do what he thinks is best.

"They say there's no such place... as Paradise. Even if you search to the ends of the Earth, there's nothing there. No matter how far you walk, it's always the same road. It just goes on and on. But, in spite of that... Why am I so driven to find it? A voice calls to me... It says, 'Search for Paradise.' " - Kiba, Wolf's Rain

  • I have no idea why the staff at MW keeps telling people this. Off-white shirts look dirty. No one will be able to tell that your dress is a slightly different shade of white.
  • My guys all wore ivory shirts and it looked fine. Of course they wore brown suits, the girls dresses were brown & my dress was a dark champagne. I didn't think they looked dirty at all. I think what color the shirt is against (suit/tie/vest) can make a difference.
  • They just told me the same thing last weekend!! The guy instantly started off with "men will need an ivory shirt and the color tie of the bridesmaid dresses". FI cut him off and said no actually, we want gray dress shirts with black ties. The guy was confused that we were not just doing what everyone else does lol

  • Thanks for all the input guys! All the ivory shirts we have found have a yellow tint to them, which I think may look worse than a white shirt and ivory dress! We live in California, and our wedding, including most of the wedding party, lives in North Carolina. I think we will go with just a plain white shirt to make it easier on everyone! Lord knows if we tell everyone to get ivory shirts, everyone will have a different shade, haha! Again, thanks for all the advice! :) I appreciate it!
