Do not leave immediately for your honeymoon the day after!

I know it's not always possible, but I would advise not to book your honeymoon for the day after your wedding.  Too many things can go wrong to make it difficult for you.
My friend warned me but I didn't listen!

For us, we booked it for the next day because my fiancé has to take time off of work and we wanted to spend 10 nights on our honeymoon.
We are from a small town in upstate NY, so we are flying from that city to Boston the day after our wedding.  (there are no direct flights to our honeymoon destination, and it's too much flying to do it all in one day).
We booked a 4:30 pm flight and booked a hotel near the Boston airport for that night.  Our flight to Montana is the next morning (we're renting a lakehouse for 10 nights).  Well...the airline has canceled the 4:30 flight and rebooked us for 8:30 am!   I called the airline and managed to get us on a noon flight, but that's still cutting it close.
I'm frustrated because we never would have chosen such an early flight the day after our wedding, and had we known we might have changed our dates for the lake house.  But it's too late because the lake house rental place doesn't want to change our reservation dates.  So we're stuck leaving at 12 pm the day after the wedding.

It's not the end of the world, but it is an inconvenience.  We wanted to host a brunch the day after the wedding and now I'm not sure what we'll do.  Maybe it'll be a breakfast.  But I wanted to sleep in after the wedding :)  And it will be hectic saying goodbye to out of town relatives, making sure we have everything for our trip, taking care of the wedding gifts, arriving at the airport in advance because you can't just walk in at noon and expect to get on the plane, etc.

Soooo, in summary.  Don't book your honeymoon for the day after the wedding.  Too much stress!  Try to have 1 day buffer, or at least leave in the evening.

  • eek i'm sorry you are going through this.
  • Boo! I'm sorry that it has gotten so stressful! But, on the upside, guests will completely understand that the reason you're cutting your time with them short is to escape to a week of newlywed bliss!
  • we are getting married on a saturday evening 5pm reception at 7 we have all of sunday to say good bye to out of town guests who are leaving and those who are staying till monday we have time to hang out with them. we are doing a week in florida and then going on a 8 day cruise, we leave that monday at 6am for florida.
  • Sounds like a very nice honeymoon, Hye.

Thanks, girls, for the sympathy!  :)
