Re: Bridal Portrait

  • Baltimore, Marylander here.  Not a tradition up in these parts.  I would honestly be freaked out that something would happen to my dress during the photo shoot that couldn't be fixed or undone.

  • To me it feels like you're honoring someone who has passed away, but I understand tradition is tradition :) A friend recently posted this after her wedding:
  • I didn't even realize that this is something people do... thinking back at it now. One cousin did have a portrait as a guest book. A lot of people from my fiance's culture put the table assignments over a large framed portrait as well. My FMIL assumed we were doing that- I told her we were doing escort cards and that was the last I heard about portraits.

We have some photos of us from an engagement session, but people will be looking at the bride and groom all night, what's the need to put pictures of us around the venue?

  • Southern Bride here too....  Every wedding I have ever attended, except for 1 had at least one Bridal portrait on display if not multiple.  We have in storage, ready to be hung with my portrait bridals from my mother, grandmother & great-grandmother.

I can't imagine not having them taken.  I am having them done 3 weeks before the big day.  I think it is a very Southern tradition that has lasted through generations.
  • I'm another Chicagoan and I had never heard of bridals until I came on this site.
