Need help with bridesmaid dress ideas!

Hi Everyone!

My wedding dress is ivory chiffon with a crystal belt, it is a modified A-line, it's the Maggie Sottero Courtney. I am having a hard time deciding what style dress to have my bridesmaids wear... there are only 3 of them and I'd like for them to pick their own dress...same color, material, and length of course.

Any suggestions as to what fabric (chiffon, satin), and/or length that would go with my dress? Oh, and the wedding is at the end of July.

Re: Need help with bridesmaid dress ideas!

  • if its july i would get something thats more summer friendly in terms of fabric. i have my girls in jasmine l3001 long chiffon one strap dresses all in the same color

i would go with a chiffon material or something thats not heavy

your best bet would be to look for dresses you can get off the rack

you post on the ct board right? there is a place in wallingford called dynamite designs she carries bridesmaid dresses and i think she sells off the rack.

another option since you want them in different dresses would be to check out some bridal salons and find out if they have any maids dresses that they are selling off the rack

or davids bridal but you are cutting it close

you could also go to like macys and nordstrom and look at dresses as well
  • @hyechica81 I am also on the CT board.  I am going to have them go to David's, all 3 live in different states, and all are different body types.

I was thinking chiffon, but mine is chiffon... maybe considering short satin... who knows, I can't make a decision to save my life, lol.

    Thanks for the advice!
  • Honestly, the BM material doesn't really matter. Chiffon, satin, it doesn't really make that big of a difference, no one is going to look at your BM and go "Oh, why did the bride put them in chiffon when SHE is wearing chiffon?" It's a non-issue. Let your BM's decide amongst themselves.

  • Go now because the bridesmaids dresses that come in all different styles... if they don't have their size in stock they take 12 weeks to be made.
I went to Majesty in Danbury and was really pleased.

  • I asked my girls to go to Davids and pick out a dress that is around the knee in a chiffon/or similar fabric in a specific color.  Our wedding is also in August in central PA so I wanted them to be comfortable in a lighter weight fabric if the weather decides to be hot/sticky
  • Check out the Donna Morgan bridesmaid dress like at Nordstrom. I think they're mostly chiffon, but they come in a wide range of styles and sizes, and Nordstrom has an awesome return policy.

  • What's their budget? You did ask them that, right?

I didn't even think about fabric's that go with my dress...never crossed my mind.   I just gave my 3 girls a color and length (short, which they actually all told me they preferred) and let them pick a dress on their own.  Each went to David's separately and picked the style they preferred. Picture's will look better if they are all feeling comfortable in what they are wearing.

My wedding is in 2 months and one of the girls just finally went and picked a dress last week - she ordered online and got it in only a couple days.  Another was able to buy right off the rack at David's.

  • @artbyalle no, I didn't ask their budget, but David's Bridal's dresses are inexpensive... I don't want the, to have to spend a lot of money and I know for one of them especially that price is a concern.. Thank you to everyone for your suggestions! Decided to go with a medium purple ("wisteria"), short, satin dress... They will have a number of dresses to choose from...
