Send STDs now, or just wait at this point?

Hey knotties,

We set a venue, chose a date and finalized our guest list! Woo hoo! Since our wedding will be in August of this year (which is less than 6 months out), we're wondering if we should send out Save the Dates at this point since we are expecting some guests to be coming in from out of town, or if it's too close to the date for STDs now since invites should go out in June. 

We'd appreciate your advice. Thanks! *edited for grammar mistakes*

STDs are always optional.  You can send them if you wish, but they are not required.

If you're worried about some of the OOT guests, you can always email them or call them just to let them know.

Do you know how I can send my Save The Dates through The Knot? I heard you can do it through this site but can't figure it out? Or do you have any other recommendations for free online STDs?

another great option is to take an engagement photo  use a program like paint shop pro or something and create your own invite and have them printed up at walmart

my brother is good with graphic design so i sent him a photo told him what i wanted worded and he did it all for me. i sent it to walmart had one printed up needed to be tweaked sent another one had that printed and my brother said the second one was perfect. i spent 13.00 to print up 100 save the dates we sent out 80 but i wanted extras in case. bought the envelopes at michaels about 13 for the envelopes got all my seals for 7 buxs plus stamps which was not that much  i think i spend less than 60 on everything
