Today is my five year anniversary with FI! It is also 1 year since we got engaged, and our wedding is in 12 days! So excited and happy!
I never introduced myself before I started posting, so I thought I'd add that here as well.
I'm a PhD candidate in the life sciences and FI is in retail. He is planning on going to law school, so he is preparing for the LSAT and is going to be starting some classes in the fall. We met on eHarmony. I almost deleted my account 2 days before we were matched, and then I told him I wasn't interested in him because he lived in a suburb outside of the city I was living in. He asked me to reconsider, and luckily I did. We moved in together after dating for 6 months, and then moved from Ontario to BC when we had been together for 2 years. When we moved to BC I told FI that I was ready to marry him. Shortly after that he began saving for my ring and planning "the perfect proposal" (as he calls it).
"The Perfect Proposal"
I always wanted to go to Paris and visit the Eiffel Tower. FI has family in France and Switzerland, so we planned a trip to Europe last year to visit them. He booked his vacation time so that we would be in Europe during our anniversary. He casually suggested we should be in Paris for our anniversary, and then booked dinner at the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower day arrived and FI had food poisoning. He wouldn't cancel the dinner, so I enjoyed (not really, I was upset that he was sick and refusing to leave the restaurant) dinner overlooking La Seine while FI spent most of the time on the floor of the bathroom. After dinner we were supposed to go to the top, but he wasn't feeling up for it, so we went to a little park beside the Eiffel Tower. FI proposed there and I said yes! He was upset that the proposal didn't go as planned, but I told him that life doesn't always go as planned, and that I wasn't disappointed because, although the dinner at the Eiffel Tower was very sweet, the only part that really mattered was that he asked me to marry him, and that went perfectly.
