RSVP Wording

Hi everyone,

I am trying to figure out my RSVP wording, and could use some help.  We are having a plated dinner (July 19th is the wedding date) and my fiancee is a huge foodie.  So, naturally this is where we splurged a bit so we wouldn't have typical "boring" wedding food, and he really wants to put a description of the three dishes. I have never seen this done and was wondering if it is tacky to do that?  I know that I would appreciate something like this on RSVP cards since I am a very picky eater (much to his dismay!), but I don't want to be tacky.  We have having a very nice elegant and traditional wedding. Thanks for the help and feedback ladies!

Re: RSVP Wording

  • I wouldn't put a description on the card. I'd add it to the website if you have one and have a nice menu printed to put on the tables.
  • Yes, just put the description on menus for the reception tables.  It would look odd on an RSVP card.
  • I think it is fine to have the names of the different dishes that people are choosing on the RSVP card (ie. Herb Grilled Filet Mignon, Saffron Butter Cracked Lobster, etc.) but if you want more detailed descriptions of the dishes then printed menus at the actual wedding would be fine.Example:

  • We recently received a wedding invitation that had a description of each of the meal options.  Rather than having the description on the RSVP card, which just listed options: chicken, fish, vegetarian, etc.; they included a small insert with descriptions of each meal printed on very light paper, which was attached to the RSVP card.

Fitting all of that info on an RSVP card would be difficult.  If you don't want to send an insert describing the meals (which we aren't doing), you could also talk to your FI about printing menus, which would be available for guests at the reception.

  • If your FI is insistent on this, I'd print menus and include them in the invitations, then just have lines on the RSVP card for chicken/beef/vegetarian/whatever.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • To keep the RSVP from looking cluttered, I'd either make a menu inclusion card, or if you have tech savvy guests, refer them to your wedding website for further details.
  • I'd refer to the website for further details or include a menu insert.

  • Thanks for your help ladies! I think we will be doing a menu day of!
