Floor Plan

Have any of you ladies seen a floor plan like this?  I'm used to the tables being on both sides of the dance floor, not an L-shape that my venue appears to do.  My parents are helping with the seating chart and my mom isn't happy about the floor plan, but I'm not sure if there's anything I can do.

Re: Floor Plan

  • I kind of like it too!

It looks like there's not one area that they could get all the tables into and this way people will have a little more space around each table?
  • Looks good to me. Only thing wouldnt do is the sweetheart table on the far side of the dance floor. Seems a bit remote. But I like how the DJ is away from the tables so no-one will he too close to the speakers.

I didn't realize that was a sweetheart table alone on the other side of the dance floor. I would consider moving it closer to the other tables too, to be closer to your guests OP. Maybe the tables on the left could shift back from the dance floor just a bit and the sweetheart table could be moved directly across the dance floor from its current location?
  • I went to a wedding that had a floor plan almost identical to this. It wasn't bad at all.

I'd have your sweetheart table a little closer to your guests. I'm used to seeing it set a little apart from the rest of the tables, but that looks pretty far away.

  • I kind of like being by myself.  Apparently the problem isn't so much the floor plan, but I'll know more when I call my mom.  It appears to be more of she wants complete control over the seating for my dad and hers family.  She's driving me insane!  LOL.

  • I attended a wedding where the floor plan looked like this, and I had a miserable time. Absolutely horrible. On top of all of the other heinous etiquette mistakes the couple made, FI and I were seated at the only table on one side of the L. As in, all the other tables and guests were on the opposite side of the dance floor, around the corner so we couldn't even see them. And even though our table was closer to the doorway, the wait staff forgot about us a few times. I don't think the floor plan you're working with is inherently bad, but do be kind enough to seat people on both sides of the room so no one feels like they're on a lonely island!

  • I don't think the floorplan is necessarily bad. I do wonder if there is enough room to walk through and around the tables near the corner of the L. It seems like that would be a high-traffic area for those seated at the bottom of the image when they go to get drinks from the bar. Maybe that isn't a wall by the entrance in that corner, but if it is, I'd worry about that area getting congested in the corner or people walking through the dancing just to visit with others or get to the bar. Really, though, that's the only thing I see that could be bad with the floor plan.

I really hope that made sense.

But, in spite of that... Why am I so driven to find it? A voice calls to me... It says, 'Search for Paradise.' " - Kiba, Wolf's Rain

Keep in mind that you probably won't be by yourself very much at all (not including your FI or I guess husband at that point!). People will probably be coming over to talk to you and FI almost constantly and with the current set up you'd probably end up by the tables anyway or the guests will be walking back and forth over the dance floor (which may not be a big deal at all). Just thoughts!
  • I've been in the room and its pretty open so I'm not worried about people having a hard time getting through.  I know my parents are used to the traditional tables on both sides of the dance floor and at the back of the room.  By the entrance there is actually a very small staircase that you have to walk down so moving table closer might not be an option.
