Dress Dilemma

So I've mentioned in a few posts around here that I found the dress of my dreams, talked myself out of buying it because it was slightly above budget, and ended up purchasing a different dress at DB. The dress I bought is lovely and it will be perfect for my wedding but I cannot stop thinking about THE dress. My mom cried when she saw me in the dress and I never thought that would happen (she can be on the stoic side). I've been obsessively checking preownedweddingdresses.com and today, I found my dream dress. And of course, it's the same price as the dress I bought from DB just a few short weeks ago. So now I'm torn. Do I buy my dream gown preowned and try and sell my other dress or do I suck it up and keep the dress I have? I feel like a crazy person for even considering this so I need someone, anyone to talk some sense into me. Poor FI will just tell me to do whatever makes me happy but I want to be fair to him and not increase our financial burden with this wedding (we're paying for a large chunk of it ourselves with some help from my mom).

Re: Dress Dilemma

  • If I were you I would by the dress and make cuts elsewhere if you have to.  You say you keep thinking about it and you don't want to be thinking about another dress on your wedding day.  Buy the dress and then sell your other one.

  • I wouldn't be happy in a dress that i just bought just because. In fact I wasn't happy with a dress i bought just because and found a dress that i very much love later. Buy your dream dress and either cancel or sell the DB dress.
  • Thanks guys! The one I love is a Maggie Sottero - Bronwyn. I didn't want to take it off and felt like so beautiful. I emailed the girl selling it on preowned to ask for actual pictures (she only posted stock pics) but it is listed as new with tags, unaltered.
  • Good luck purchasing your dream dress!

  • Talked with FI - he said that he wants me to get married in the dress that makes me feel the best so if Dress #1 is it, then I need to get it. Hopefully this works out! Thank you everyone for not making me feel like the crazy person I've started to believe I am!

Before you purchase the dream dress, do a little research. See if you can find a button-back lace jacket to pair with the dress you already have to make it look and feel a little like the original (Mori Lee has some beautiful options [link]).

In the meantime, start a conversation with the seller on PreOwned just in case you do decide to purchase it. I wouldn't be afraid to try and negotiate a little to ease the stress of a second dress purchase.

I'd say in the end do whatever makes you happy.

Thanks @ElcaB I'll definitely look into the jacket options!
