Deciding between two dresses

Sorry the photo quality isn't great but I'm having a hard time deciding between these two dresses and would really appreciate any input.

Dress 1- I spent 2 1/2 hours trying on dresses at David's Bridal and finally decided on this one. I like that's plain, has a full skirt and a train that can be bustled. Our wedding will be outdoors in the fall so it seems appropriate for the season and venue. I'm not sure I like the satin though, and I'm a little uncomfortable going strapless. I'm also wondering if it's age appropriate (feels made for younger brides?).

Dress 2- On a whim, I went to a bridal boutique and tried on several more dresses. This was my favorite. It's lightweight and comfortable. I love the straps and coverage on the back. My concerns are the fit of the dress (stretchy silk so not forgiving around the mid section) and that it might be too casual.

From the wording on your post it doesn't sound like you're really impressed with either dress. I like the first one better, but I'm not convinced you love either one of them.

Personally, I don't like the second one. It looks very nightgownish to me. But, I agree with Dignity. You don't sound that impressed with either of them.

I also agree you should keep looking because you sound very lukewarm. But you don't look too old for strapless

Thanks, you're probably right. I was hoping for that ah ha! moment people talk about but I didn't have it. I think part of is it that I'm self conscious so no matter which style of dress I tried on, I wasn't completely happy with it. Instead of stressing out over it, I've decided to just choose a dress and be happy with it, even if it isn't perfect.

Just keep looking. You might not have that aha moment that they show on TV, but there are thousands of dresses out there. If you are luke warm, don't buy it.

If your self conscious you may want to try a corset back. Those tend to give you a more hourglass figure. You may not have an ah ha moment but you want to feel comfortableand cconfident in your dress and if neither of those dresses make you feel that then keep looking.

Btw i was very lukewarm on a few dresses i bought but i still bought them because they were cheap. I found a great dress later and I'm happy i looked until i found a dress i feel great in

Did you think of using some sort of bolero jacket with the first one for more coverage? Plus most of DB gowns I think you can add straps or sleeves to. You could really make the first one your own by adding sleeves or a jacket. Otherwise, I do agree that you don't seem too excited about either. Are you just settling for these for some reason?

Hm ok. I think I ordered the first dress because it was inexpensive and I felt panicked that I wouldn't have a dress on my wedding day. Did you end up selling the dresses you bought and didn't wear?

I guess I am settling somewhat. I don't enjoy dress shopping and I'm discouraged that there's a dress out there that's in my budget, appropriate for the venue, looks good on me, is my style (plain), and my mother likes. You've all convinced me to try at least one more bridal store though..

Hm ok. I think I ordered the first dress because it was inexpensive and I felt panicked that I wouldn't have a dress on my wedding day. Did you end up selling the dresses you bought and didn't wear?

I am going to take them to a local resale shop and sell them. I'm honestly not going to wear them. If your worried about having a dress you can always look into shops which sell samples or boutiques that will let you buy off the rack. These dresses have imperfections because they've been tried on but if there's no serious damage then it could be easily fixed by a good seamstress

Check out the Mori Lee "Voyage" line. they have some nice, more simple dresses. Most of which will be under $1000.00. (some, in the $600-700 range)

Good luck! Don't settle. Just keep looking until you really like something. You still might not have a crying fit like you see on Say Yes to the Dress. But, you should at least look at yourself and think... yeah... I look friggin great !!!

I agree, I'm not feeling either dress. I also just felt like I was settling at DB. Then I found THE dress at alfred angelo. I will say, my budget was also under $1,000, though I was willing to go a little over if I absolutely fell in love. My dress was $850, but with slip, bra, headpiece and alterations, I'm probably going to go a couple hundred over budget. Just something to keep in mind when you're shopping!

My dress is a mori lee dress and i found it for $500. Also when I went to a speciality boutique they were going to allow me to buy a $1400 dress for $500. It was a sample/off the rack. I decided against the more expensive one due to the amount of alteration it'd require. I get not loving anything at DB. I feel that's a good jumping off point for finding styles you like but not necessarily the spot to find your gown...

@ blergblot and lookame- thanks for the detailed pricing info. I will look into those designers. I think there is a consignment store here that sells used Alfred Angelo gowns so that might be my next stop.

Davids bridal was so overwhelming! I went on a Saturday with my bridesmaids and critical mother and I think I rushed into ordering the first dress so I wouldn't have to repeat the experience..

Davids Bridal on a Saturday is definitely an "experience". If you are self conscious about your body then I could see how you would just want to get out of there. When I went there were like 15 people sitting around staring at me while their brides were in the dressing rooms and they all felt the need to comment on the dresses I was trying on. I only brought my sister with me because I didn't want a million opinions, but I ended up getting them anyways. LOL

I agree with other PPs that you don't sound real excited about either dress. I think continuing to look is a good idea. There are a ton of dresses out there that are more on the simple side.
