Alternating bridemaid dress colors? Yes or No?

I really want to incorporate the colors of the theme with the dresses. I will probably have 5-6 bridesmaids. The colors are a light blue and a light green.I have a while before my wedding so i just want to know if it would look tacky or not!?

  • I think it is possible to have different colors and not have it look tacky, but be advised that blue and green together are strong color statements (versus blush/cream, gray shades).

If you choose to alternate, I would wonder how you'll pick which BM wears which color? And I would suggest matching flowers or other cohesive elements so it doesn't look like a Broadway musical.

  • Yes, I think you can do two different colours for BM dresses.  Examples:

I agree with @AddieL73 when it comes to deciding who wears what color.  You could probably tell all of them to get a blue/green dress and then just arrange them in an alternating pattern once you see everyone's dresses and where they fall on the blue v. green scale.  Or, you could ask who wants  to wear blue, who wants to wear green, and who's totally impartial.

Not blue and green, but a more clear "alternating" pattern:

  • While I especially like the first pic @doeydo posted, maybe pick one color and then get a sash in the other color for each dress?

  • This is a matter of taste and style. Blue and green is my favorite color combination.

There are no rules that say your bridesmaids must match.  Mine didn't, but I only had two.  This is a case of where "Do what you want.  It's your wedding." really does apply!

If the colors are matching and soft enough, I would say do it. If they are bold, then I'm not so sure. It really depends on how the two shades go together (or don't go together). What's most important, however, is that YOU like it. And don't worry about the colors in your post. They didn't blind me. :)

I could see this going anywya you like.  You can have a strict alternation, all in shades of green and blue that they already own/can buy off the rack at a department store, or do as this PP suggested.  Just make sure you'll be happy with it at the end of the day!
