groomsmen from different countries - attire

I hope this is the right place to post this but I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with getting attire for groomsmen when they're not all in the same country?  I had hoped we could use men's wearhouse since it would be nice if they all looked the same (the bridesmaids will all be wearing the same color dress and half will be wearing one style, half another).  I'm concerned though because men's wearhouse only has locations in the U.S. and one groomsman will be coming from Europe.  I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this (I plan on checking with men's wearhouse shortly) - could he send in his measurements, or would it make sense to just tell the guys get a certain type of suit and we'll provide the rest (if we said black suit, I don't know how different they could end up being).  Thanks!

I would do this.  Black, charcoal Gray and Navy are all fairly standard suit colors, and will look just fine.  We are having our groomsmen get grey vests and slacks and then a white dress shirt.  (Since white is white!)  Then we will provide a matching tie to bring them all together in the end.  It will look fine even if the suits are different.

  • I don't know how men's wearhouse works, but I know the company I used for tux rental said that they could just send in the measurements & pick up their tux & get fitted to make sure it's all good then. Since they have GM pick up tuxes two days before the wedding & the warehouse is local if sizes were off it would be easy to fix anything that was wrong.

If you are going for purchase, I would just say black & if possible whatever style of jacket and a white shirt & then you pick out the ties to match them. There is a risk that the suits will vary slightly but they will all be black & have the same tie so it will go together fine.

  • We have GM in 3 countries. We went to Men's Wearhouse first and yes, they said the GM could just call in their measurements.

However, we ultimately decided to make it even easier and have just asked them all to wear a gray suit & white shirt of their choosing. I found matching ties for them already.
  • We're doing Men's Wearhouse. One of the guys lives in London, so MW gave us a detailed sheet about measurements and where to measure to give him. He can go somewhere local and get measured, then send the sheet to MW. Easy peasy.
  • Great, thanks so much!!  I'm a little hesitant about giving the guys a color and telling them to bring a suit (we told one groomsman we wanted black and he said he had a great midnight blue suit he could wear - his girlfriend told him he couldn't do that) so it's good to know we have the option with somewhere like MW and that it's pretty easy.
  • We have the same issue and decided to go through buy4lesstuxedo. The guys sent us their measurements and we just ordered all the tuxedos and shipped them to their house. We had planned on rented tuxes until we realized buying them was less expensive (and the men get to keep them). The quality is on par with the rentals. The GMs are responsible for their own shoes and any alterations.

  • We have the same issue - my fiance's in the military and the best man just got stationed in Germany.  Men's Wearhouse has no problem with sending in the measurements.  You just have to make sure the guy gets measured in inches, as in Europe they'll default to metric.

My best friend did this for her wedding as well as one of the groomsmen was in Chile, and they had no problems
  • I had a bridesman from Japan. He got measured locally and emailed me. I took the measurements to our tux guy, no problems.
