Snarky Brides

Pinterest strikes again

"The day of the wedding, take a picture of the flower girl in your dress and hide it from her until her wedding day to give her as a present!"

Um, I don't want my wedding dress on the floor like that, especially since that looks to be outside.  Also, what bride's body is as small as a four year olds?  Mine CERTAINLY is not.  My flower girl (I don't even have one) would be lost in the fabric until her next birthday.

I am SO GLAD that I am not the only one side-eyeing this "idea" floating around Pinterest.  It's just like 99% of the stuff on there, cute for .01 seconds until you find 1000 reasons why it's wrong.

  • This is wrong on so many levels that I've run out of vocabulary to express them.
  • Agreed with everyone. As well as- why the hell would I want that as a gift on my wedding day? You're giving me a picture of when I was 5 years old, in YOUR gown that I find hideous and has no meaning to me. What's the point/ why would I want that picture? lol

I was never a flower girl and I'm not having one. I can't imagine my future daughter ever wanting to wear my wedding gown for her wedding so it might be cool if she wears in a high school play or something? lol

  • I have seen this so many times. It always makes me want to gag.

And of course, every damn time I see it, it's on the 'someday' or 'when he asks' or 'when I find Mr. Right!' board of one of my friends who isn't even SEEING anyone, let alone engaged.

  • This, along with any other Pin-sulting gift ideas, is just beyond me.  Echoing what @jenna8984 said, why the hell would I want a picture like that?  If, on my wedding day, one of my aunts hands me a picture of me drowning in her dress, I'd be like "...Thanks?  But why?"
AND what if the little girl in the picture never gets married, or decides not to wear a dress at her wedding?  So many things change between oh, I don't know, childhood and adulthood.

I feel the same way about those hankies that say something like "so you'll have something old for your wedding day" that you give to the flower girl...  I can tell you with blinding certainty that we are not giving our flowers girls anything sappy and useless like that...

  • I think it's cute for a daughter or like someone else said, if she's just sitting in a huge dress. Flower girl is weird though, and trying to make it fit is missing the point.

  • I have a picture of myself at age 6 swimming in a very good family friend's dress--7 years after she wore it. I may have a copy of it made for her that I will give her in a bi-fold along with a picture of me and my FI on our wedding day (it would make a cute parallel since in the original picture I'm sitting with her son). But I would never risk anyone else getting into my dress day-of, and I'd definitely not coerce the flower girl into it.

  • I don't know... One of my flower girls (my niece) told me she can't wait for my wedding to be over so she can wear my dress. Somehow she got it in her head that she will be allowed to play in it after the wedding. Probably because I rarely say no to her.
  • Is anyone else disgusted by that dress being pulled tight around her? I think this idea could maybe be a little cute if the dress was huge on her, like a daughter trying on Mommy's clothes and high heels, but the fact that it's basically form-fitted on her is disgusting.
    WAIT A SECOND!!!

I think the dress is made for that girl! If you look the waist is where her waist is not where an adults waist is.
I feel like this may be one of those mis-labeled pins and that this dress is some weird kiddie fashion show/pageant. Also her hair is done up like a "bride" not a flower girl.

Could she be a "mini bride"? When my mom got remarried, my younger sister was in love with her dress and so she made a custom flower girl dress to look identical to my mom's. My sister called herself the "mini bride" (she was 8 at the time, I believe). However, my sister's dress was a lot more modest than what this little girl is wearing

  • Ugh...no, no, no, no, and no! First, I wouldn't let someone else wear my dress before me. Especially a little kid. Secondly, there is no way I would have my 6 year old niece in a strapless gown. The whole idea is just disturbing.

@debmonn, that is the kind of picture I hope to have with my flower girl. It's natural and just precious!

I thought the exact same thing. The proportions of the cups and waist make that a dress for a little girl. There is no way that would fit an adult, even a petite adult.

I do like the veil pictures, because those seem more natural and fun, and you still have control of it to prevent it from getting dragged or stepped on. I used to play "bride" with my grandmother's sheer curtains, and the photo above reminds me of that. :)
