Dance lessons

LOVED IT! Fi and I had so much fun. It was our first dance lesson, and we looked like total fools. It was a blast. My FI posted on facebook, "Muffinman and I danced like no one was watching... and thankfully, no one was." Lol. He cracks me up. The lessons were a christmas present from my family. I am so excited for our next lesson. I can't wait!!!

Re: Dance lessons

  • sounds fun! H and I took a salsa class before we were engaged and we were so annoyed because in the class they kept making us switch partners and we did not like that--the point was to dance together! So we never went to another class, but I hope one day we try a different class.  I gave him points for it was the thought that counts though! (I was a dancer (jazz, hip hop, etc). and was missing taking classes so he signed us up for a salsa class so we could dance together (for no way would he ever be in a hip hop class, lol).

  • Yay! I love dance lessons too! They made us fill out a thing about what we wanted to accomplish and what was important to us.... it turns out that my fiance has always wanted to be a good dancer. He wants to keep taking lessons even after the wedding.

  • I've been dancing since I was in diapers. I love it, I was really hoping FI & I would do dance lessons before the wedding but I think the timing for it is just not going to happen.  I keep telling myself may be in the fall or in the summer, we can do them anyways.

  • I considered dance lessons for FI, but it would be like teaching a cat to play violin - completely and totally hopeless but probably hilarious.

  • @Cookie Pusher Lol.  I thought the same way about myself.  It was really easy though.  I was not perfect at it, but I was making progress even at the end of our first lesson.  We are doing a waltz so it is fairly easy.  We were going to do another song, but the dance for that is the foxtrot... no way!  I am far too uncoordinated for that,
  • @Cookiepusher everyone says they have no rhythm. You'd be surprised what you can do when you get out there!

  • It's not a problem of rhythm (well, a little bit), but more a problem of his selective hearing when being instructed, lack of flexibility/range-of-motion, and overall clumsiness. It's like his gigantic size 14 feet have magnets to my precious little toes!!

  • My fi has size 14 feet as well. Lol.  The best part about dance lessons is it tells him where to put his boat feet to keep them from stepping on mine.  Best money ever spent. Lol
  • So jealous! Our wedding venue actually offers a free private dance lesson to each couple getting married. Sadly, we can't take them due to FI's foot issues. We're both lousy dancers but we figure a sense of humor will make our first dance work!

We also got dance lessons for Christmas! I don't know how to actually go about using them, though (like, did my in-laws pay and we just call and pick times to go? I have no idea).

  • @phira, My family gave me money to use towards dance lessons.  If I were you, I would assume your in-laws paid and tell them who your in-laws and that you received dance lessons for Christmas, then schedule a time to meet.  You will probably have a session to assess your comprehension of dance technique and moves, and the instructor will go from there.  If you are terrible, like we are... you may need a few more lessons. Lol.  But if you have good rhythm and follow orders well, you may only need a few lessons.

Thanks for the feedback! We're seeing my in-laws this weekend (I think), and we're going to talk to them about some wedding details, so we'll just check in with them then.

I'm excited. My partner is like ... the whitest whitey who ever was white in the history of whiteness, and his dancing abilities are, at best, really minimal. I'm mediocre. I've got rhythm,* but I don't exactly know how to move my body. Or where to move it. I basically just don't want to look really stupid.

who could ask for anything more? Lol.  I was impressed with how quickly I was learning,  I am extremely uncoordinated.  I learned to enter the floor, gracefully, basic waltz steps, and two spins, and a modified dip (I have a bad back). That was my first lesson.  As I take more lessons, I will get better at each step and technique, but I could not believe how easy it was. (Foxtrot or samba are more difficult).  I am confident you, both, will learn with the greatest of ease. FYI my previous dance floor knowledge consisted of dice shaking. Lol.

That's really awesome! Definitely makes me feel really confident. We picked a not-slow first dance song (Cake's Love You Madly), and I'm not used to dancing in a long dress with tulle puffing up the skirt, so I'm frankly quite stressed about the whole thing. My partner suggested a reception dress, but I do love my wedding dress and it's was frickin EXPENSIVE so I'm gonna wear it the whole night. I'm going to see if the seamstress can remove some of the bulk in the skirt, though.
