NWR: Birthday Invitation

So FI's cousin sent out invitations for her son's first birthday party at the end of the month and it had a nautical theme, which I thought was cute and fitting since they live in a small coastal community. I'm reading the invite and I'm all excited to go and celebrate their sweet little guy and then I see it in tiny letters at the bottom:

"Nautical Attire Requested"

Yes, of course, let me go out and buy a gift AND an "appropriate" outfit.....ay yi yi.

I'd wear regular clothes. If asked about "nautical" be like, "I wear this on boats."

Seriously, depending on the type of boat (personal, tourist, dinner cruise) you can wear any outfit in the world and be appropriate. It's a stupid, stupid request as a way to hope people show up in, what, white linen pants and blue striped shirts?
