Adult Family Vacation - All-inclusives

I'm bored, and I want to start planning/daydreaming.  We have been talking about going on a vacation to an all-inclusive with DH's family (anywhere from 10-13 adults).  I posted this on the travel board on the nest, but thought I'd ask you all, since you're all busy planning your honeymoons!! :)  I'm looking for destination ideas:

Here's the criteria:

Destination - all inclusive.  Most (if not all) have done Cancun before, so I would like to say Cancun/Cozumel is out.  I know St. Thomas is out as well (already been visited before).  Most of the people we'd be going with just did a southern Carribean cruise, so I think they would want to stay away from most of those islands (St. Lucia, etc).

Budget - Personally, I'm thinking, I would like the flight/hotel to be no more than 4,000-4,250 for two people.  This would most likely be for 7 nights, but might be negotiable to only 5 or 6.  We'd be flying from Indianapolis, IN.

Things we like to do - Chilling on the beach.  We are into active things as well.  I would definitely want to walk around and explore the area.

Am I missing anything??

Also - tips on booking this?  What websites do you find the cheapest?  Do you usually book the flight/hotel as a package (i.e. expedia, travelocity, etc), or do you usually book separately?

  • I think there are still lots of options open. Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Bahamas, Bermuda, there are some cruise specials where you can get drinks included so that would open up cruising and Hawaii. That budget is definitely do-able. I use my mom, a travel agent. I'd recommend one rather than trying to coordinate all those people together.

  • We love cruising, but the family has been on two cruises, so that is out.  I know we're strictly looking at an all-inclusive resort.  Just need to decide on the location. :)

  • I would also suggest travel agent with a group that big... although that is definitely optional. I know a few people that have gone to Belize and Costa Rica and absolutely LOVED both locations. I'm not sure about what all-inclusives are there or prices, but I've heard awesome things about both. FI's uncle even ended up buying a house in Costa Rica to live part time.

I am doing cruise this summer that stops in Belize, so I know they have a lot of activities available there. There are Mayan Ruins, underground caves/rivers for tubing, jungle trips/hikes, there are some amazing waterfalls if you have time to travel inland. We had actually looked at maybe doing all-inclusive in Belize, but decided on cruise instead.

I don't think you could go wrong with either location.

  • I'd go Sandals. No kids. All inclusive. We did the Royal Bahamian and loved it. But they have lots to choose from. I also use bookit.com because they let you weed out and filter based on adult only, all inclusive etc.

FYI, Bermuda isn't all inclusive. It's fabulous and the best island ever! I'm biased because I live here and am from here. But seriously, it's great option but not all inclusive. Fabulous beaches and plenty of history/things to do and very safe.
