just got my first " are kids invited" email

I'm pretty sure the invite just said Mr and Mrs, not your kids, but thanks for asking. It doesnt help that we all just went to a super awesome wedding in Feb for a family member of my fiance where kids were invited. It was a beautiful, fancy very nice wedding, paid for by the Brides parents, and all of the family kids were invited. We however are doing it all ourselves, and the reception is in a back room of a restaurant. I would love to have the kids, but between my family, and his, plus our friends, it's a ton of kids. It would put us over budget and max people. ut I still felt bad saying no. My 3 kids will be there, plus my FBILs son, because they are coming from out of town.

You did the right thing saying no. The kids coming are yours and 1 from OOT- people will understand.

Saying no is really hard when you have other kids coming, though. I get it. We have the flower girls (FI's sister & our goddaughter), FI's cousin (we invited because we invited her two teenage sisters and didn't want to split up the family), a family friend's daughter (because she is like a little sister to me), and my dad's two grandchildren who are coming from across the country. We've had to tell two families they couldn't bring their children and hope they understand when they see kids there.

We are having a strictly adults only wedding. We had our parents spread the word because I didn't want to put it on the invitation. One couple was offended, but they can just get over that. Another couple decided not to come because of it. It's their loss! This is what we wrote on our website, maybe you can phrase it in a similar way: In an effort to include and accommodate all of our family and friends within our seating capacity, we have opted to celebrate this day with adults only.
