Pets & Pictures

Those of you with fur-babies, do you plan on/did you get pictures taken with your pet on your wedding day? I would love to have pictures taken with my kitties, but I think I would be staying at the bridal sweet which is at our venue, so the kitties wouldn't be with me. I don't really know yet, though.

Re: Pets & Pictures

  • My kitty is not calm like that. There would be claws on my dress. Maybe I'll try to get one afterwards when we come for the night lol. My friend had her dogs walk down the aisle and be in formal pics I thought it was a little much.

  • Fi is obsessed with the idea of our cats somehow walking down the aisle as ring bearer and flower girl. NOT gonna happen.

However they are both very calm and love-y, so we may be able to grab a pic with them in the morning. I wouldn't be in my dress yet, though. :-/

"I'm not a rude bitch. I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • Nope. We got married a few hours from our house, and our cat is terrified of people anyway. It actually never occurred to us.
  • I would have had no interest in that whatsoever.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • We're getting married 2 hours away from our kitties, so they won't be coming with us. Also, one of them likes to climb on my shoulder, and I'd rather not be bleeding. We are including them in our cake topper though.

  • No, definitely not. Our dog will be boarded that weekend. And he would probably try to eat my dress anyway.

I have considered putting his picture on the table where we will be having dinner with our kids at the reception though since he is part of the family.

  • I would love to get a picture with my dog but, unfortunately, he will be boarded...And he's not that calm when outside the home; he'd probably destroy the dress.

  • I'm getting ready at my house and I would love to have pics with my pets. They are my babies.
  • We will be getting married in FI's hometown and won't be taking kitty with us. She would pounce on my dress, anyway. It does feel odd not to have her share in our day, though.

  • No way. I find it odd, but I'm not obsessed with my cats, lol.

  • My dogs both think they're still puppies. As one of them is 50 pounds and thinks he's a lap dog that would've ended badly. I love them and have loads of pictures with them, but they would've been very much in the way that day.
  • I would absolutely LOVE to get photos with my doggies on our wedding day. I don't see it happening though because they're very active and excited beagles and would jump all over my dress, not only destroying the lace and beaded details, but also getting fur all over it. They're very attached to me and get excited to see me when I come out of the shower, so I'm sure if I changed into my dress in one room and then saw them in a different room, they would go nuts.

  • Our dog is staying behind for our wedding. We're getting married out of state, in a non dog-friendly venue, and his mom and sister are not fans of dogs. I love our dog dearly, but she's not a person. She doesn't understand what is happening or what she's missing. We have great photos with her already.

  • Immediately after our short mini-moon, we packed up my stuff and started driving my car from Iowa to Maryland, where DH lived and worked. The first night in a motel, DH work up screaming. My cat was sitting on his chest, nose to nose with him, as if to say "Who is this person, and why is he in my mother's bed?" That cat never warmed up to my husband!

  • I would love to get pictures with our kitties, but it may not be possible from a logistics point of view.

I love my dog, but I have little to zero interest of having her in a photo with me on my wedding day.

Besides, the possibility of her defiling my dress would be too stressful. She's a high energy lady. Best case scenario? She'd cover me in slober, which wouldn't exactly make me feel like a bridal beauty.

  • @hoppersgirl25 I also have beagles and I would have the same problem. They are both very energetic and attached to me. I love them a ton, but I think it would end badly for my dress. FI and I did bring them with us for our engagement photos, so we have some great shots of us with the two of them. Maybe engagement photos would be a good alternative to wedding day photos.

We're considering this! Our engagement photos are going to be in a park and we might take the pups along with us. It really depends on how they're acting on that trip to my home state because sometimes a lot of travel affects their mood.

  • Ah yes, long trips can be tricky. If you do end up including them, it is super helpful to have an extra person who your pups love. FI's dad tagged along so we could get some shots of just the two of us, not to mention he also enticed the beags with treats so we could some awesome pictures!

  • I love our kitties. I would never want to put them through that kind of stress. Neither one would react well.
  • I would love the idea of having pictures made with our pets (5 dogs, and a cat) but not on my wedding day. Also, when all five of them are around new people they get very excited which turns our 90 pound puppy into a crazy lap dog. Good in theory, but would not work for me.

  • My FI's one significant request for the wedding was to have his 11 year old Aussie walk him down the aisle as his "best man" ... I adore the dog and know how important he is to my FI so I'm okay with it, though I said I want absolutely zero part in the logistics of getting him from home to location and back, but that there had better not be a minute of delay on account of the dog. He is going to wear a bow tie and collar in our colors and sit with FMIL/FFIL during the ceremony (which is outdoors). His best human man will be responsible for the lint roller and fur control before the ceremony (we are doing pictures before). I love my own dog but don't want to worry about him on my wedding day so he is staying with my parents.

For what it's worth, I love our birdo and would love wedding day pictures with him, but even if he were a dog, it would just be really stressful to get the photos.
