Niagra falls mini -moon

Planning for our mini-moon in July. Which side is better? Canada or Ny?

Re: Niagra falls mini -moon

  • Definitely Canada!  No contest!  If you are coming from the USA, you will need passports.

  • Canada is so much better. More hotels right along the falls to choose from. If weather is bad on the Candadian size you have the butterfly house which is in a nice park if you want to get outside in a park environment to walk around or have a picnic at. Niagara on the Lake is near by which is suppose to have lots of cute little stores and town to walk through. We didn't make it to those because we went in November for our honeymoon & many of the stores were closed or on winter hours. There are also lots of wineries near Niagara on the Lake area if you are into that. Clifton Ave is fun to walk around too on a nice day. Also they have the WEGO bus line which will take you from the falls all the way down to the rapids, which is a pretty far distance. It's a keep & easy way to get around and not have to deal with parking (or the cost of it).

It's not that the American side doesn't have anything, they have the parks along the falls, the observation deck, an aquarium (I personally didn't think was worth the money), you can tour the power plant some, and then their is Fort Niagara where on the weekends & in the summer weekdays too, they have tours and do demonstrations/shows. They have a few hotels near the falls, but not as much to do within walking distance of the hotels.

  • Any hotel recommendations for the Canadian side? I'm actually organizing a trip to Niagara Falls for my FI as a wedding gift and we are going in July as well. Our honeymoon is in June in Costa Rica, but he told me he's never been to Niagara Falls so I thought this would be a very special gift. Thank you for the activities suggestions. I was gonna book something on the NY side, but now I'm gonna look for hotels in Canada.
  • We have stayed at the Marriott Gateway and the Marriott Fallsview. Both are conviently located on the Wego bus line. Great way to get around the Falls and if you request a Fallsview room at either hotel, you will get a beautiful view (the higher the floor the better the view). My in laws have stayed at the Casino which is closer to the falls and have enjoyed their stays there also. Depending on your feelings about being around lots of families, you may want to avoid the Casino located closer to the Rainbow bridge. Nothing wrong with that hotel, but they have a waterpark at the top of their hotel so they are likely to have more families. Nothing wrong with families, but if you are looking for more of an adult atmosphere, that hotel may not be the one to go to.
  • I forgot to mention & TK won't let me edit, but most hotels charge for parking too just so you can plan for it.
  • Just wanted to add that if you go to Niagara on the Lake (canadian side), they also have the whirlpool jet boat rides.

Sounds silly... but it was SO fun.  You get completely soaked, but you'll have a great time.  And ditto everyone else about Niagara on the Lake having great shopping, cafes, and nearby wineries.

    Have fun!
