Hand address Save the Date postcards?

We ordered our save the dates as post cards.  Should we now hand write all of the addresses? The company doesnt have an option to print the addresses onto the postcards.

Re: Hand address Save the Date postcards?

  • That is best. Or you could do clear labels, which some people frown upon, but it's a victimless crime.

  • I am with Addie.  Hand write or use clear labels, whichever you feel most comfortable with.

  • Can you load them in your printer and print directly on them?  Just another option.  I have horrible handwriting so I avoid that if at all possible.

  • I hand wrote mine, there were about 50. They turned out ok, but I didn't worry about it being perfect. It wasn't worth the effort to type it and figure out aligning to print them...that would have take just as long as doing it by hand.

I personally would not do labels.
  • We had STD postcards and did clear labels with a nice (but read-able) font. No one noticed/cared.

  • Question - why, when labels are suggested, is it always "clear" labels?  I think clear labels look terrible.  I'd rather see a white label on a white envelope than a clear label any day.

Also, a vote for hand-writing here.  It's just more personal looking.  I hand-wrote ours, it took like half an hour to do 40.

  • i'm with @grumbledore.  handwrite them.  it will not take that long.  just spread it over a few nights.  i also hate when people say no one noticed/cared.  there is no way to know that.  i wouldn't care, per se, but I would certainly notice.

i think labels look really cheap.

I don't mean for this to sound bitchy, but pretty much every STD that I have received deserves a label then because it matches in formality.

Honestly, we are talking about a postcard STD, not a $15 invitation.  Will a label cheapen an expensive invite?  Sure.  But will a label really cheapen the look of a postcard?  Probably not.

  • @maggie0829 that is a fair point!

i've received a few cheapy save the dates, but the majority have been really beautiful.  off topic, but i love a good save the date.  they inherently are on my fridge way longer than the invitation (months vs weeks), so i wish people didn't treat them as such a throwaway.  i cringe at all the comments saying "i got mine from vistaprint and they were $15 and looked amazing!!!!!!!!"

I don't blame people for going cheap/inexpensive for their STDs. They aren't a necessity and the only point of them is to let people know your wedding date. I feel like if I got a fancy/expensive STD I would be be expecting a super fancy/expensive wedding and then would probably be disappointed if it wasn't. Even though people say STDs don't have to stick with your weddings formality I really think they should. I mean if you sent me a fancy STD, then a not so fancy invite and then you had a casual BBQ wedding I would be really confused and vice versa.

But what about a white label on a pearly purple envelope that won't take ink so it has to have a label?  Or any color other than white?

  • totally agree, Maggie!  as you say, it sets the tone.  i think your spend should be proportional to where you are falling on the spectrum for everything else.  i do think an std can look nice without making me think it will be fancy.  i just hate hate hate cheap stationary.

OP, as you can tell from some of the comments, this is a personal decision. Do what you want.
