Apparently body parts are the same as car parts!

My friend just let me know that one of her boob jobs ruptured and she had to have it replaced yesterday. She said definitely an unexpected expense and surgery, but the "extended warranty" she got on the first set really helped out with cost. That is something I had never given much thought to and makes me giggle that they treat it like a new tire or something. I understand the need for warranty but it's kinda messed up to think about your body parts like that.

  • @jenna8984 I don't think I've ever used it.... but it seems appropriate here!  That's what my face looked like as I read the words "boob jobs ruptured."

  • What's funny is that ruptures usually happens from blunt force, like a car accident, or playing sports and falling and landing on it. She said she didn't have anything like that happen...she just noticed over the course of a week that it was getting smaller and smaller!! She thought she was going crazy and then her husband was like nope you've definitely got a unicorn boob going on.......!

  • Oh God!!!!! Hahahaha. I didn't know you COULD get the extended warranty on a boob job lol. Here's how that convo probably went.

Doc: Yes, and you can also add on the boob-job warranty. Just in case your boob explodes on you out of nowhere.

Friend: Sounds good! I'll take it!

A ruptured silicone implant can be serious if left untreated.  Really.  They also have a limited lifetime.  I have a prosthetic implant where my right breast used to be.  I was told at the time that it would need to be replaced in about 10 to 12 years.

I don't think those are used anymore.  It was probably saline, which gets re-absorbed by the body.

No, silicone is still used.  It feels much more natural than the saline implants.  Mine is only five years old.

Is she okay? I know nothing about implants. Is this a health hazard? Crazy.

  • Most of you younger ladies don't have much experience with replacement parts.  I know that in the next few years I will need a knee replacement.  Medical science has come a long way, but it is a concern when you know that foreign objects are being sewn into your body.  Rejection and infection is a major concern, and leakage is no laughing matter.  The surgery is quite painful, and recovery takes time.  I still have pain twinges after five years.

  • Yes, she is ok. It's saline which is basically salt water, not harmful.

@cmgragain Surgery and recovery is definitely a difficult process. Which is why I don't understand why people do it voluntarily. Yours sound as if they were medically necessary. I wouldn't just "trade in" a part of mine that was perfectly fine to begin with.
