Prelude, Processional songs

I was going to just make a CD for the ceremony songs and I didn't realize that you need prelude, processional, and recessional. So I have a few questions:

How many songs do I need for prelude? Or even minutes? I saw 20-30minutes, but just want to make sure.

For processional I want to use a cover of "Just the way you are" - Bruno Mars, but I don't know if it's long enough (it's about 4 minutes long). My bridal party is just 5 groomsmen and 5 bridesmaids...no flowergirls or ringbearers and then my dad and I. Should I just use 2 songs for processional?

Re: Prelude, Processional songs

  • Your prelude music needs to start when you open the doors to guests and end when you are ready to start the processional music.  I would do closer to 45, just in case you're running late.  You'll likely only need about 30 minutes though.

For the processional, 4 minutes should be plenty long for your bridal party.  Was your plan to enter to the same song?  You can absolutely do it, and depending on how long your aisle is it will probably be fine, but personally I like when the music changes.  Seems more dramatic.  The same song feels very anticlimatic to me.
  • Thank you for answering me :) I actually found some prelude instrumental music that I'm going to buy on Itunes...it's 14 songs and it's called Disney weddings (We are going to Disney World for our first part of our honeymoon) and I figured since all the music during the night is going to have lyrics why not do something just instrumental that can be quiet in the background.

I'm going to play Train - Marry me for my bridal party and then for me I am using Bruno Mars - Just the way you are, but I'm using a cover song that is slower. My fiance said when it came out it reminded him of me.  When I played the songs they went perfectly together. Thank you again :)
  • I think that's a great idea if you love Disney. It's nice to tie in something in the music that represents the two of you! I'm having the same issues! I don't want traditional music at the ceremony either! Have you thought of what you are using for the recessional yet? That's what I'm stuck on!!! And the groom has turned down EVERY option I've found... here's a few if you are still looking...

-Signed, Sealed, Delivered - Stevie Wonder
-Today is a Fairytale - Taylor Swift (might go with your Disney idea!!! I love this one)
    -Ain't no Mountain High Enough
    -Stuck Like Glue - Sugarland
-Bang on these Drums All Day (we decided to use it for our bridal party's entrance to the reception... we are Bengals fans and it's their song, but really upbeat and fun!)
    -Beautiful Day - U2

Hope that helps if you were having any issues with the recessional!
