Does it really take TWELVE WEEKS to get BM dresses?

I felt like I was pretty on top of this. IDK. My sister went shopping for dresses today at Davids Bridal for herself and her two daughters and that's the time they quoted her. So not soon enough for the wedding in 10 weeks. They don't have anything on the rack in the right color. So I think my sis went with a different color. Argh. And apparently I picked the rarest color in the world because they don't sell it online and I'm not finding it on ebay.

That just seems really ridiculous to me. I feel like they always grossly overestimate timelines but don't want to risk it either. Thoughts?

Sidenote: my niece is adorable. She's 10, very girly and super excited about all this dressing up stuff. I guess she tried on one dress in particular that she liked so much she cried. LOL. I didn't even cry when I found MY dress.

Re: Does it really take TWELVE WEEKS to get BM dresses?

  • No. My girls all got their dresses in under a month. And they weren't rush ordered or anything. Did they ask if they could get them in sooner? A lot of times they throw out a far number just so they can accommodate all the rushes.

  • My BMs all had their dresses come in in about 4-6 weeks.

In furniture, we sometimes add a week or two to shipping estimates because shit happens.

  • It has never taken me more than 4 weeks to get something from DB. Can you order them but buy something returnable in the event that they don't come on time?

  • One of my BM's got her dress in less than a week from DB. The other one took forever, but she is a size 0, so I don't know if that made a difference.

  • Okay that's great to know. I can SORT OF understand it for a wedding dress (okay even then that's pretty ridiculous) but a BM dress? No freaking way. I wonder if they do that to sell more rush orders.

  • They wanted me to come in early January for a September wedding...yeah didn't happen! We found one at the end of March and all my girls got them within 2 weeks.

  • They told my daughter that it would take four months for her wedding dress to come in. It arrived in less than a month.

Did you speak to the store manager? Ask if they have access to current inventory numbers or if they're estimating the delivery time. I wouldn't order that dress if they are saying it's not going to come in on time.

I've only ever ordered one dress from DB. Bridesmaid dress. Arrived in about a week and a half.

I do think that sometimes it DOES take 12 weeks, but it's really unusual.

  • I didn't use David's bridal for my wedding, so I'm no help there. But one of my bridesmaids ordered their dress in December and they quoted 4 months. Nothing special, just order a size, but it came in 3 months. As far as I know my other bridesmaids haven't gotten their dresses yet, but they ordered in January or February. My wedding is in 8 weeks.

My wedding dress took almost 7 months to come in. I did have some custom things added, but it still seems really long. Thankfully, my dress was one of the first things I did after getting the venue.

  • I have both instances of thus.

I ordered Vera Wang dresses in a charcoal color - they told me 16 week delivery.

Well my two sisters' arrived in 5 weeks. Cool.

My best friends dress..... We are still waiting. It has been 13 weeks.

  • It's really hit and miss. My BMs all had different time frames. They ordered at different times and were all quoted the 12 week estimate, because that should be the maximum.  A couple came in around 5-6 weeks, two close to 8 weeks and one was the full 12.  Did they have the "rush" option? It may be worth it.

When I got a BM dress from DB I was able to purchase it that same day. The girls who had to order got their dresses in a couple of weeks.

For my sister's wedding we ordered dresses through a salon. The designer was Bari Jay. The salon said it would be about 12 weeks for the dresses to come in and I think they showed up around the 10 week mark. They had a "rush" option but we had plenty of time. I think we ordered dresses in late June/early July for a November wedding.

I ordered my bridal dress through a salon in February and they quoted July for an arrival date. I guess we'll see if that happens or not. Right now it's been about 2 months since I ordered.

  • Mine have always come in about 6 weeks. I know there are exceptions that are legit, but I think in most cases they're absolutely trying to sell more rush orders.

  • My actual wedding dress came in from David's Bridal in about 2.5 weeks. Bridesmaid dresses have been the same...I'm not sure why they told us it would take so long. I would guess at most it might take a month.

Same here- my DB's BM dresses always came in 6 weeks or less.

  • I didn't use David's Bridal but I ordered my bridesmaid dresses in Mid December for a September wedding (had a sale on them if you ordered by Dec 31st) and the girls got them in late March. They obviously won't be doing alterations until July though.

However I ordered my flower girls dresses from DB in February, they quoted June, and I got an email last week saying they were already in.
  • Last time I ordered a BM dress from DB I think it was like 2-3 weeks.  They TOLD us it would be like 8 or something ridiculous, but it was super fast.

She can always pay the rush fee, but frankly I'd probably roll the dice and figure it would come in way earlier than their quote.  I like to live dangerously.

  • I had to order a DB bridesmaids dress it took less than two weeks for it to come in.  My BM's ordered their dresses in mid November and they still aren't in yet and I was told they would be in mid May.  They are Jim Hjelm dresses.

  • they told us 12 weeks (and tried to make us "rush" order when we were ordering 13 weeks before the wedding... yeah they all came 2-3 weeks later.

  • My BMs ordered their dresses the second week of January for my June wedding. We were told they would be in early-mid April and they still haven't arrived. I'm not sure if the fact that I'm in Canada makes a difference or if it just the designer.

My mom ordered a BM dress for her MOB dress. She went at the end of January and the manufacturer told it would take 9 month, so she picked another dress at the beginning of February and was told it would arrive in May. She is also still waiting *shrugs*

  • I ordered my wedding dress from DB and they estimated 12 weeks, but it got here in like 4 I think.
