Reception Bar

We will be having 150 adults at our wedding reception. My FMIL had agreed to pay for the bar and is now rescinding her offer. As the wedding is in 1.5 months we don't have much time to adjust the budget - we are just going to have to find some way to make the bar happen. In WI the majority of guests drink beer vs. mixed drinks. The venue offers beer by the half barrel. How many half barrels should I plan on for a group that size? We will be offering the beer during the entire night (1 hour cocktail hour, 2 hours of dinner, and 4 hours ofreception dancing). I asked the venue manager and he said it could vary between 3-10 drinks per person...not helpful at all. Thought maybe you can all help. Past brides...what did you go through

My venue said for my wedding of 250 (heavier drinkers) 5 1/2 barrels on the high end.  I am also curious tosee what people in the past went through.

Sorry to hear about your situation.
We are around the 250 mark (kids and adults) and we have 3 ordered with 2 on reserve (we don't have to pay for the reserves if they aren't tapped). As terrible as it sounds, you don't want to run out of alcohol..many guests will leave and find somewhere else to continue the party.

At my fiance's brothers wedding, they went through 5 half barrels and had about 140. Then It was cash for anything not beer. Just make sure you have too much rather then too little, some people base a wedding off of the booze and it the kegs run dry at 10:00 people might think your reception is boring... Frown
