NWR-rudest shower ever rant

Who thinks it's acceptable to have a baby shower on a Saturday at 6 pm? No food available till 7:30 ish..and neither the hosts/honorees have arrived. Yup self hosted shower. It's in a function hall with a dj and band, crazy decorations, yet cash bar. Oh and wth are the parents to be? An hour an a half later, still no show, when is it cool to make people wait for you?

Re: NWR-rudest shower ever rant

  • Why are you still there?
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Because it's FI's friend. And I dont want to be a b*tch with all my etiquette..oh, it's the trend now, so and so did it that way too.
  • I can't imagine having a DJ for a shower.

  • I once went to a baby shower with a DJ much louder than I've heard at any wedding.  Strobe lights, too.  And we felt so bad we didn't leave, because it was in the middle of a snowstorm and hardly anybody showed up.  We literally had to scream into each others' ears to converse.  At least the food and drinks were hosted, though, so we just sat, ate, and drank with our ears pounding the whole time.

    'Twas quite shitty.

EverAfter, what time did they end up showing up?

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • Holy mother on a pogo stick! When did this start happening? Baby showers with bars and DJs and strobe lights and bands? This sounds like a new fresh hell I want no part of.
There was nothing wrong with presents and cake and people who love you. I love presents and cake.
All that aside, they were rude and I would not have waited.
  • They showed up a little before 8, said hello to guests and disappeared. I got cranky and we went to find the hosts to say goodbye. They were just bringing the food from the back. You could tell the people that arrived earlier were cranky too, just sitting there all bored and hungry. A few left. But, there were a lot of people showing up later in the evening. Apparently some people got the memo to show up two hours later.

FI asked if we'd do something like this when we get pregnant. Because last week he went to a 2-day baby shower and he thinks this is normal now. Hell NO.
  • Did they even open their gifts, or did they just show up long enough to collect them?

We didn't stay long enough to find out.

In th 2 day baby shower, no.

    it's a sad trend.
  • These occasions are when you wish you had been rude enough to excellently wrap up a box containing a picture and a note: "Figure out the clues to win your gift.  Unless you're reading this after your shower is over, in which case don't bother because I'm at the store returning it."
  • What does one do in a two day baby shower?!

A "friend" (acquaintance) of mine recently hosted her own baby shower. She asked me to make her a diaper cake and asked me how much it would cost. She wanted it for the centerpiece at her shower. Of course that made me feel bad because I'm a pansy, and I offered to make it for her for free. So I make it and send it to her (shipping is not cheap) as a baby gift that is probably nicer than one I'd give to an actual friend.

Fastforward to the shower. I did not attend due to being out of state, which is why I shipped the diaper cake. Best friend went to the 12 pm shower and there were no food, and no games. Just cake. OH OK. Because it's perfectly acceptable to invite people to bring you gifts at lunch time with no food. Cool.

Same chick is hosting her daughters birthday party at a park, 11-2 pm in about a week. States on the facebook event that she's only having some soda, snack food, and cake "considering the kids are going to be playing pretty much the whole time". My son would probably be bugging me to death for food come 1 pm. At least she gave people a heads up this time?

  • I would've headed out after 15 minutes and exchanged the gift for a cheaper one.
  • I would've headed out after 15 minutes and exchanged the gift for a cheaper one alcohol.
