NWR - Speshul Snowflake at Work

Re: NWR - Speshul Snowflake at Work

  • Horrible!!!!

This reminds me of a situation I heard about at work. There is this man who works my old job (so I know vaguely how much he makes). He has a family, and his wife works.

We have our yearly reviews in January and we can only earn a small set percentage merit increase. The only way to get a real raise here is by changing roles completely. This being said, our increases in health insurance premiums for 2014 can indeed completely negate the wage increase--- and it did for this guy.
He had a very public discussion with the director of his department and HR by his cube demanding a higher raise because of the health insurance. A) Awkward, since it was at his cube and many people could hear and b) horrific, because this is a guy that does the bare minimum to do his job. He never goes above and beyond. Everyone gossiped later about how angry they'd be if HR caved and gave him more of a raise.

What's more ironic is this guy claims he's too poor to invest in the company-offered 401k (leaving money on the table and doesn't even realize it), and is one of the types that thinks companies are greedy and evil and so forth and so on. (Has no idea that profits = money in your pocket with a 401k.) I know he was very pro-ACA, and has no idea that the new regs contributed to the significant increase in our health insurance premiums.

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.
  • Maybe send her this cautionary tale...don't quit your job when you're passed up for a promotion!
