Florida Honeymoon in June

My fiance has never been to Florida, (he is also 13 years older than I) so we decided we would head there for our honeymoon. I have not been to Florida in 21 years, so my memory regarding towns to stay in and things to do is very hazy. At the suggestion of a couple people who own timeshares, we decided on staying on Fort Myers Beach. So far, we've planned parasailing, hang-gliding, a road trip to the Everglades for a tour, and (possibly) a road trip to Miami since he is a diehard Miami Dolphins fan who has always wanted to see SunLife Stadium. Aside from the above-mentioned, we just plan on being beach bums to forget about this horrible New England weather we've endured.

Does anyone have any other suggestions to add regarding what we can do, as far as in the local Fort Myers area? Also, I have researched average weather patterns in that part of Florida, but haven't gotten anything substantial to go on. Is it rainy season during early June?

The only place we do not want to travel to is Disneyworld--the cost to get in far outweighs the entertainment, considering I'm a little chicken that won't go on crazy rides.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Florida Honeymoon in June

  • It is definitely rainy in June! And hot and humid. We usually experience afternoon storms every day to cool things down around here. It's normal. Every now and then we will get a couple days where we don't see any rain, but for the most part, it's a 30-60% chance of rain everyday starting in May (the trend seems to have started last week) and lasts until mid September. Keep in mind just because the weather report may say 88-92 degrees as a high, with the heat index it really feels over 100. Bring sunscreen!

I would suggest some water activities, like waverunners or renting pontoon boats. Also, I suggest going to over Holiday Park before going to Sunlife for the Everglades tour; I've been going on their boat tours for years. I enjoy Ft Myers Beach over the east coast beaches.

And I apologize for the drivers in that area in advance ;)

  • Hi there!

Sorry for the late response, been going nuts with working overtime and putting together last minute wedding stuff! The drivers can't be any worse than the morons from the Boston area, haha!

I'll have to look up Holiday Park. We're going to be staying at a place called Hideaway Village--are you familiar with that place?

If you have any more suggestions, keep 'em coming, I appreciate 'em! :-)
  • Be aware that June/July/August in Florida are our version of your horrible winter last year. It's so hot and humid here that we really stay inside, because you can't easily breathe outside to do anything. You really can't be in the sun between about 11 and 4. And it rains for about an hour every day between 4 and 5, and most times it's stickier and hotter after it rains. Our summers are horrible. We got married in July and honeymooned in San Diego, because that's a place that has a high temp of about 75 and low humidity, so you really can walk around and drive around and go exploring on vacation... If you come here anyway in June/July/August, please research it first so you can take health precautions and not be frustrated by it - just like you'd tell someone who wants to honeymoon in New England in February.
  • I just want to note that I got married in July and then we HMd in Key West that same month.  It was nicer (cooler and less humid) then it was back home in MD (I think it was about 100+ at home).  OP, if you live in a place where the summer is hot and humid (like high 80s/90s) then you will be fine in FL in June because you will be used to it.  But just like PP have said, be prepared for afternoon storms.  But if your summers are average then you will most likely be spending a lot of your time in a pool or in the ocean.  It is really all what you are used to and what you can handle.
