Re: Fundraisers

  • I'd buy Boy Scout popcorn if it tasted better than it does. Until then, the Girl Scout cookies win every time.

I really, really, REALLY dislike people fundraising for their kids at work in general, but this is just even more ridiculous.

    Although unlikely, I
may be inclined to help if the family was actually doing something to raise money. Sell me overpriced candy bars, mow my lawn for $15, do something --- ANYTHING --- but straight up ask me for cash.

I also feel this is a wildly inappropriate thing to do in the workplace for your coworkers you don't even know outside of "Good-morning-how-are-you-good-me-too-have-a-nice-day."

I'll donate in certain circumstances. I like to buy girl Scout cookies (was a GS) and Boy Scout pocorn (both brothers and FI were BS). I hate when people try to constantly raise money for their kids at work. My mom aways took our orders forms to work for people but THEY approached her wanting to buy because they knew it was that time of year. Our parents also made us do all the work (other than driving us aorun dif we needed). Like many have said, I like to buy products.

I will donate to St. Judes and the Alzheimers Association.

I'm actually leading a scholarship fundraiser right now for my home church. On of my good frineds passed away this past year in a car accident and was heavily involved in this church. So we're doing a 5K to raise money for a scholarship fund for EVERY SINGLE active member at the church (will be disperssed evenly thoughout their tim ein college). Since this is close to me and a lot of the community, we have had an overwhelming amount of support.

This, IMHO, is different. You're raising money for a specific goal, it's not for YOU (or your kids or your dog or whatever), and it's an actual activity.

My college roommate and I actually run memorial 5Ks every year -- we run one at our college for a classmate killed by a drunk driver six months after graduation (the money goes to the Class of Our Year) fund; we run one for a little girl who died at her church (the money goes to the organisation that researches the rare genetic disorder she had that killed her), etc.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • @KeptInStiches Boy Scout popcorn is pretty bad, actually REALLY bad. I buy the tins of caramel popcorn for myself at Christmas.

  • I thought of fundraisers I won't donate to. I won't donate to any religious based organization for professional reasons.
