... I made a typo on our invites! D:

FI noticed it yesterday and when he told me I just wanted to freaking punch something.

I'm generally very good at spelling but you know how there's some words that tend to trip you up? Yeah. For some reason I thought "presence" is spelled "prescence". I fought with these invites forever, got them printed, and then spent a couple hours doing an embossed stamp on each one. THEN we notice.

A big part of me wants to send them out anyway. I have spent so much time and money on these damn things. The print shop I took them to was very nice and I think they'd reprint them, but I am out of the paper I used and it doesn't solve the problem of stamping them again. I am kind of thinking since it's smaller, cursive text and if it took us this long to notice and nobody out of at least 3 people at the print shop noticed, then hopefully no one else will either. I mean people kind of glance at the wording and then just take notice of the big colorful lettering that states the date, time and place. I'm hoping.

WWYD? Ugh. I feel really stupid. There was another typo I'd made when I first did a test print on the response cards, so we did look at them carefully. I don't know how we didn't catch this.

  • I'd just send them. Most people probably won't notice.
  • If it's not essential info, like wrong date or time, I'd just send them.
  • I would reprint them. I'd be worried that someone would notice and even if they didn't, I'd be thinking about it constantly and it would bug the piss right out of me.

    :(  sorry.

  • I'd redo them too. If I got an invite like that, I'd never judge the person who sent it, but I would notice it. One reason I'd redo it though, is for selfish reasons. I want to frame my left over invites or scrapbook them. If you don't plan to keep yours and don't care that people see a small problem, just send them as they are.
  • You ARE having a church wedding?  I can't remember.

OP, I'm sorry, that sucks.  If it were me, I would probably have a mini-pitty fest of crying.  Then I would probably bite the bullet and buy invitations or remake them.  But I am kind of picky.
Lurkers: this is one of the reasons it is recommended to have others proof read your invites.  You can post them here (strike out or use a fake name and location, though) for us to proof for you.
Yeah, I didn't let myself cry but I was in the middle of cooking when he told me and I just sunk down and sat on the floor for a while.

CMG, I am not. I thought "honor of your presence" indicated a church wedding. I worded it like "Together with our families, your prescence is joyfully requested at the wedding of". Don't tell me I did that wrong too... I thought "honor" was the big word you want to avoid for a nonchurch wedding.

  • Your wording -- 'presence' -- even without 'honour' would confuse me. I'd think it was a church wedding, TBH.

I'd also reprint them because I'd worry that someone would notice, and even if they didn't, *I* would know it was wrong, and it would bug me.

Both of those are just my opinion, though.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • Other than the spelling error, you are OK with that wording.  I was afraid you might have made another big mistake!  It's OK.

  • I'd reprint them, but I come from a crazy family. My father and uncle are copy editors, as am I, and many of my friends and family are English majors, writers or both.
  • I'd reprint - mostly because I would cringe at a spelling mistake on someone's invite, and I wouldn't want people cringing at my invites.

  • I would have thought it was a church wedding at the mention of presence.  I would redo the invitations I wouldn't want them to go out with a spelling mistake...

  • "Presence" denotes a church wedding?
  • I thought "honor" was the magic word too. My invites say "request the pleasure of your company," which I copied from some samples I read. I knew not to say "honor of your presence," but thought I though only "honor" needed to be avoided.

Yeah, for some reason I thought pleasure of your company sounded strange to me (I don't know why presence sounded better, shorter I guess?). I thought I was okay avoiding honor.

Does it help that it says plainly that it's at a golf course, followed by a reception?

  • I wouldn't assume it was a church wedding with the wording you have. I would, however, reprint just because it would definitely bother me knowing the mistake is there.
  • You have to make the best decision for you and your wedding.

FWIW, my RSVPs implied DH and I were serving children as an actual meal option.  Only the twisted/crazy sense of humor family members and friends noticed it.  We left it as is- it was quite the talking point, and a fond wedding memory
  • I'd reprint them or order new invites from somewhere. I'd definitely notice that typo. Sorry. :(
  • I put October 5, 2024 on our STDs.

Bahahaha. I laughed out loud :)

OP, depending on how the script looks, maybe you can get away with it. If it was mine though, I would drive myself crazy and get them reprinted if money wasn't an issue.

  • When I see threads like this I always double check my wedding invites just to make sure. I even had @HisGirlFriday13 check them before ordering and I still get a little panicky....

Honestly, if it were me I would reprint them. But I am a former English teacher and grammar/spelling stickler. @CMGragain today I received an invite for a beach wedding worded "honor of your presence." I thought of you and cringed! I'm sure the couple just didn't look into it, saw the wording as an example, and copied. Hopefully I'm the only one who really noticed. ETA: Gahhhhh paragraphs

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • IF it were me, I would have them reprinted, because I would not be able to handle sending them out with a typo.  But you should use your judgment - it's not essential info.

  • I would notice the misspelling. I would not think it was a church wedding, but I do think the sentence is worded very awkwardly. I'd reprint. Sorry. :(

I once saw a wedding invitation that said "Bride and Groom request the honour of your presents"!

Maybe they were really excited for the gifts? :P

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • If it were me I would just send them because I wouldn't want to waste the paper.
  • It could be worse; at least you didn't put your "presents" are joyfully requested...

  • I would reprint them as well. The phrasing "Together with OUR families.....at the wedding of...." is awkward because you are initially referring to yourself and FI as the 'narrator', in a sense (our=us=pronoun 'we') of the invitation, but then refer to yourselves by your names in the third person (names=him and her=pronoun 'they'). You may want to consider resolving this so that it reads more cohesively.
