Which items went first?

So my bridal shower invites have gone out and I have to admit, it's super fun seeing which items are being purchased first. I'm surprised to see that a lot of the practical stuff (or what I consider to be practical anyway) appears to be more popular. For example, one of the first things to go was a drill that my FI had on our Amazon registry. He's pretty excited. : )

What did ya'll notice? Anything you were surprised by?

Re: Which items went first?

  • Kitchen stuff and small appliances went fast.  The George Foreman with removable plates was the first bought from Target and the Shark Navigator was first from BBB.

This was really exciting because they are probably the two things we use the most.  And both were awesome upgrades over their old versions (a tiny single person George with attached plates and an old Hoover that completely broke right before our wedding).
  • I actually had the sentimental things purchased off my registry first; i.e., picture frames, toasting flutes, etc. I had my shower already and the practical things like sheets and towels weren't purchased.

@shrekspeare - I got a pizza stone also and I'm so excited about it!

  • I would definitely say the appliances first. I registered for a few, and got pretty much all of it as I didn't register for a whole, whole lot lol. :)

  • The larger appliances (i.e. Breville toaster oven, Ninja blender) and the sentimental stuff (nice picture frames) went first.  The only stuff left is practical stuff I do actually want/need (i.e. mattress pad) that I guess no one wants to buy as a gift, and several settings of expensive fine china, which I wasn't going to register for but ended up doing because FMIL insisted that I had to register for "nice" things.
  • For me, the china went first. But both of my registries were completely purchased, so everything went at some point. Hand Towels were the last to go.

  • I didn't get a lot of stuff purchased from the registries...  I think the first thing bought was our luggage by my SIL (from Macy's) and a drink dispenser and place mats from Crate and Barrel.

We got married in January so both sets of parents and my sister bought Christmas gifts from the registry (tickled me pink) and we also got gift cards from extended family members for Christmas and for the wedding.

  • my plates went first.. and the wine rack (a bra that holds a bottle of wine!!) hahaha i thought it was hilarious, and apparently someone else did, too!!

It's funny that you say that because my coworker is always saying things like, "UGH, I wish they'd put more stuff on here because I'm not going to get them a washcloth...in my day, people registered for silver, china, and crystal - none of this towels, every day dishes, and spatula stuff." She's mentioned the towel thing SEVERAL times which is awkward because of course I have that on mine which she will soon see...HA oh well - can't please them all...

Honestly, I use the handtowels everyday and rarely use my china, so I was thrilled to gt the towels. I was so excited when someone bought us the trashcan and doormat we registered for. We actually really needed them but they are surprisingly expensive.

I had about 20 at my shower and not a huge registry since we already have owned a home for a couple years together.   The stuff that was purchased where all the big items, which I was surprised about.  None of the little gadgets and things like that where purchased at all.   Right away my knife set was bought, a dyson...LOVE it, pasta maker attachment for my kitchenaid (which I used already..so easy and exciting to make my own pasta!) .   I got a bunch of other things as well, but also a LOT of gift cards.

I hear you. Usually when I'm planning out my wedding gift for someone, I try and throw in one "pretty" thing with some useful items because those things do add up fast and who wants to spend money on a nice trash can? No one.
  • @jenni1221 How exciting that you got some of those super nice bigger-ticket items! I'm noticing the same thing about the gadgets...no one seems to be interested in those. I've got less than two weeks to go and am already overwhelmed by everyone's generosity.
