I am getting married in washington but we want the offical ceremony in oregon for family

My fiancee are engaged! we are going to get our marriage liscense in washington state. we want to come back home to oregon and have a ceremony and reception. my concern is do we do the whole ceremony and reception, because we are paying out of pocket and have we boys to take care of. or is there a way to do a reception more like a wedding cermony recption combined. i dont want just a party but i dont want to have to go all out. i hope this makes sense to someone.

So you want to get married in one state and then have a pretend wedding immediately following that in another?

Why not just get married (license, ceremony and reception) in Washington?

Is this a same-sex marriage, perhaps? Since Washington allows it, that's my guess.

That is the only scenario in which it is acceptable to get married in another state and still have a wedding-like event, since we have yet to achieve full marriage equality in every state.

If Allie is right that this is a same-sex marriage issue, get the licence in WA and have a small, private, legal wedding there, just you two and your sons.

Then have a kick-ass combined ceremony/reception in OR where you say vows and symbolise the commitment and have a reception.
