Tell me about your tattoos!

Re: Tell me about your tattoos!

  • I have always thought I wouldn't get one, because I'm generally a pretty conservative, traditional person (not politically, more like the way I dress and my career).  If I ever got one, I would get a green balloon.  When my beloved grandpa passed away, we released balloons at his funeral.  When my next birthday came around, a slightly deflated helium "Happy Birthday" balloon was floating in our front yard.  It was green, my favorite color.

For many years, my mom and I would find balloons floating in the yard on our birthday or other major events.  One time, my mom was driving on her birthday and a Happy Birthday balloon swooped down and landed on her windshield!

So if I ever get a tattoo, I think I'd get a little girl standing on her tiptoes, releasing a green balloon.  I'd get it on my ribs, probably.

But I don't like to think about what if I ever gain weight or get really wrinkly?  I don't think I'd regret the tattoo design itself, but I'm not sure I'd want a wrinkly tattoo.

    Yes just like this!!!

As for rib pain, I've heard the same thing.  Although my sister has Max from Where the Wild Things Are on her ribs and she said it wasn't too bad.  The only other place I would consider is my back, but I would prefer it someplace it doesn't show in a sleeveless dress at work.

You guys are making me want a tattoo now....

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • The work is actually by Banksy, a pretty popular street artist.

I'd love to get something like that tattooed on me as well, but don't feel that I'm "artsy" enough to warrant a Banksy on my body. Haha. But if I was, I'd totally get Balloon Girl.
  • I have 14.

    1. Right foot: Flowers (daisies & cherry blossoms) and my friend's initials. She passed away from leukemia in 2005.
    2. Right inner ankle/heel: Boston Red Sox "B" - I got it the day after they won the World Series last year.
    3. Left foot: purple orchids (the only tattoo I have that I don't like, but only because I had an allergic reaction to one of the inks & it never healed correctly).
    4. Right ribs: "alis volat propriis" - "she flies with her own wings" in Latin. Yes, the ribs were definitely the worst. But not enough for me to not want the other side tattooed.
    5. Right back, from hip to shoulder blade: Branch of cherry blossoms.
    6. Right lower back/hip: Orange koi fish
    7. Middle lower back: Spider chrysanthemum (which is a cover up of my very first tattoo, which was a black tribal sun).
    8. Left lower back: Pink lotus flower.
    9. Between shoulder blades: Blue nautical star with the latitude & longitude coordinates of my parent's house.
    10. Left shoulder blade: Dandelion puff that turns into birds that fly under my arm to my inner bicep.
    11. Right bicep: II.XIX.MMXI - the date that my sister & I met for the first time, with an anchor, to represent our bond.
    12. Behind left ear: Feather
    13. Left wrist: "just breathe."
    14. Right wrist: a pink breast cancer ribbon and "be strong" in white ink.

I have a sleeve in the drawing stages with an artist in Boston that will be Maine-themed for where I grew up. I would also like to get my grandparents wedding portrait done, but I need to find the right artist for that - portraits are hard. If I could get my way, I would have Kat Von D do it.

    Daisypath Anniversary tickers

  • I've only got 3.

The first is a blue rose on my left hip.  I did that one with some friends one night out.  I wanted to have a tattoo, but if I didn't like it, I wanted some place I didn't have to SEE it and it was easy to cover.

My second tat is one I wanted for about 5 years and is on the inside of my left ankle.  It's a unicorn in a collar with a rose clenched between it's teeth with a single drop of blood coming off the rose.  It's personally symbolic and a representation of a person who helped guide me on my life path.

My third tat was one I always joked about getting, but never could find one I liked enough to put on my body.  It's a clover on my right ass-cheek, so when people piss me off I can tell them to kiss my lucky charm (I'm also Irish, so it's significant that way too).  I also tell people on St. Patrick's Day they can't pinch me since I'm always wearing my green.

I'm DYING for a full back piece.  If you're familiar with the Kushiel series by Jacqueline Carey, I want a marque from House Valerian.  DH, however...not okay with a full back piece.  But, I keep asking, because I think it'd be awesome.  :)

I have four tattoos. The first one is a butterfly that I got when I turned 18 (insert typical butterfly tattoo meaning), A band of nautical stars around my ankle, a rose with flames that my brother designed and the Chinese character for Serenity. I got that before Firefly came out but when people comment what a huge fan I must be, I don't correct them.

I feel you. I want to turn mine into a half sleeve, or I have another idea for an arm tattoo as well but FI reeeeally doesn't like arm tattoos. Pretty much anywhere else is fine. Sigh, compromises.

I'm pretty sure my next will be "Extraordinary Machine" in the text from the Fiona Apple album of the same name. One of my favorite songs from my favorite album of my favorite singer, and it kind of sums up how I think of myself. Not sure where to put it though. I wish tramp stamps had less of a connotation.

My shoulderblade tattoo hurt like a bitch. I actually cried and was just about to tell her to stop right before she finished. I am a baby.

Stuck in box: I dreamed of getting a marque tattooed while reading the Kushiel series. Beyond how beautiful the marques seemed, I loved the idea of working through unpleasantness to earn your freedom, and displaying it without shame to the world. Settled on a rosycroix instead.

It's an amazing series, and ever since reading it, the idea's been stuck in my brain and I can't get rid of it.  I also found it interesting how people could pay not just the 'fee', but the price to contribute to the marque, thus securing their own part in your freedom.

I think back pieces of all kinds are simply beautiful, and I want one.  Actually, at this point, I just want more ink.  Potato chips, piercings, ink and horses/cats/dogs/pets are like potato chips to me.  :)  Except I try to be responsible about all of them and not over do ANY of them.
