May 2014 Weddings

Fewer than expected

So I was going through our guest list with who has RSVPed and who hasn't and it looks like we will have fewer people at the wedding then I thought we would!  I'm kind of shocked actually.  And I hate to say it but it was a lot of FI friends who bailed on him.  Some didn't mean to, its just they had other things planed for that weekend prior, but yeah.  So anyways I'm thinking we will have just under 100 people at the wedding.  Which isn't too bad.  I'm kind of happy.  I like the idea of fewer people.  Although I do have a question, I told our baker that it would be about 120 people, but its looking more like 90.  Should I let her know? or just get 120 cupcakes?  I don't know that we would need 30 extra cupcakes.  Maybe just a few extra.  Thoughts?

If cost isn't an issue, I would stick with the extra.
  • If youve already paid, just stick with what youve already ordered. Same thing happened to me.  Both with cake and food. Ive paid in full, I thought it would just be easier to keep it as is and not worry about makingcals. New order, yada yads

Yeah kind of the same situation with us. We invite 160 and thought we'd have about 130, but we actually have 115. The minimum at our venue is 125, so we're just gonna ask the caterer to feed our vendors with the 10 extra plates that we're paying for anyway. If it's easy enough to cancel the extra cupcakes, go ahead and save some money.
  • @ddvirts we too invited 160 people.  I was expecting 120 cause all of my family is out of state.  But it looks like that all the people who I thought might come aren't and then some of the people who we figured would be for sure coming aren't.  That is how we have ended up with 90 or so people.  I am kind of glad though, cause I promised myself that if I had over 100 people I would do a seating chart.  Anything less and I wouldn't do it.  So now I don't have to do a seating chart.  Which is nice.  I'm just going to reserve a few family tables close to FI and I.

@kristen625 The seating chart is a huge pain in the ass, so good for you! We just finished ours last night and I know some people won't be happy, but too bad cause that was the best we could do.
  • @ddvirts I have never been a seating chart fan.  A few of the ladies at my knitting group who are a little older were shocked I wasn't going to do one.  I told them that I didn't care for them, and I was having a buffet, so it didn't really matter so much.  I think they are over it now.  My mom couldn't be more pleased there isn't a seating chart lol.  She hated where she got put at my brother's wedding.  So she still feels quite a bit of resentment towards seating charts. :)

  • We invited 260 and are looking at only 150! And I am pumped about it! I meet with the baker next week to finalize everything and I'm going to see if we can cut out one of the extra sheet cakes I had originally requested and save $50! I've always been told that you should order less cake as not everyone will eat it and I for sure don't want extra lying around.

Still waiting on a few more to get back with me after sending messages, but our numbers are pretty close to what I expected:

    invited 152 total (105 adults & 47 kids)

    pre-lim numbers: 119 total (83 adults & 36 kids)
