Mother's Day

So Mother's Day is around the corner.  What are you doing for your mother?  If you're a mom yourself, what do your kids/SO usually do for you?

My sisters and I are making dinner for my mom. That's pretty much it for plans this year. I'm buying her some new dishes because she wants to replace her current set that's over 20 years old. The dishes she wants are pretty expensive so we're just buying a few at a time right now for her.

My mom is busy with home improvement stuff, so we're waiting a week. We're going to take her out to dinner (I think; working out details with my brother).

  • I'm getting my mom a card. This year is really hectic - I think my brother and I are going to my parents' place for Mother's Day, and we'll celebrate our birthdays at the same time (all within a week on the calendar). DB is moving to his internship site soon and I'm dealing with the house. Getting together will have to do.
  • I'm going to get my mom a card and probably a small present. My graduation is this weekend so she is coming down but she'll be driving back on Sunday. We might do breakfast depending on how early she and my dad are planning on leaving.

  • I'm really bad at this stuff, but since my mom didn't spend her birthday this year (late April) with us, I want to do something semi special. She looooves going out to eat, so probably my brothers and I will take her out somewhere. I am not the best at giving gifts, so I may try to DIY something decorative for the house, or just do some kind of experience gift. She has been dealing with an exacerbation of plantar fasciitis lately, though, so it will have to be easy on her feet, whatever we do.
  • We are doing brunch. I'll probably throw a card in the mix.
  • Like @Lapeanut1018 said, we are cooking dinner for our mom Sunday night. I'm getting her a photo book made of my wedding since she has told me that's what she has wanted since then. Hopefully it arrives this week and it's what I've imagined.
  • Not really sure right now so much is going on and we never discussed anything.

  • My sister and I splurged this year and got my mom a Pandora bracelet. It's more than I planned to spend, but she's mentioned wanting one for a few years now and my mom has been exceptionally supportive for me through a somewhat turbulent past year.

We're doing lunch on Sunday, a combined Mother's Day and birthday lunch since my birthday is next Tuesday. Easier to just do it all at once!

  • I can honestly say I have no idea lol. But like @keptinstitches my bro and I both had/have birthdays this week and my parents anniv is tomorrow so it's a busy week!

Whatever I end up doing it won't cost too much. We just got pre approved for a house loan so we are supposed to keep our finances relatively stable
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • My mom lives 3.5 hours away so I won't be seeing her for Mother's Day, but I will be sending her a card (which I should put in the mail tonight!)

  • If things go according to plan, we'll be moving on Mother's day. Our moms are okay with it. I think I'm going to pre-make a lasagna and heat it up on Sunday. I'll also be getting a card and a small present.

  • My mom's not around but FI and I are going in together on gifts for his mom. Also her birthday is right before Mother's Day, and she requires two individual gifts. We got her a sparkly necklace from Macy's (from her birthday list) and a cute coffee mug full of fancy candy from Trader Joe's for Mother's Day.

  • We took my mom out for sushi while she was in town (She's in MD and we're in CO)...to serve as her birthday (5/1) and Mother's day celebration.

For my MIL, H and I are getting her a nice gold chain necklace. When we went to Tahiti on our Honeymoon last year we got each of the moms a Tahitian pearl. MIL hasn't been wearing hers because she's worries she doesn't have a chain with a good clasp on it. We wanted to do something a little extra special this year since it's the first one without FIL...so that's what we came up with. The boys (H and his brother) are also doing yardwork the day of for her.

  • My mamabear lives in NC so no hanging out with her this weekend. I'll send her flowers & a card, per the norm.

FI's mom is here, but not sure we'll be doing much. We're all going to a wedding Saturday so we'll give her lots-o-loving then, I suppose.

  • For the MILs I bought them both nice gifts while we were in Charleston. H's mother is on vacation during Mother's Day so I won't be able to give her the gift until she gets back. We will probably just do dinner with them once they're back.

As for H's Stepmom (which are having issues with right now so things are a bit rocky), I plan to get lunch with her next week to give her the gift. I would give it to her this weekend since it's H's dad and little bro's bday but since she is being irritating not letting H come over then we probably won't see them.
  • My brother and I are painting the shutters on the house. Not especially 'fun' but it needs doing and she's excited about it!

DH and I also bought her an infusion pitcher, an onion dicer, and an iced-tea pitcher (all at Home Goods).

My family tends to do practical gifts for Mother's Day and Father's Day.
